Drug
traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 30 Nov –
A combined team including members of local intelligence unit and local police
force, acting on information, searched Soe Naing near the Bus Terminal in
Zeyawady and seized 326.58 grams of marijuana on 13 August 2001. Action was
taken against Soe Naing, 46, son of U Win Maung of San Daw Twin, Bago under
Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Zeyawady police station. The Toungoo District Court handed down 15 years’
imprisonment on him under Section 19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law on 18-10-2002.
Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit and Border Areas Immigration and
Discipline unit, acting on information, on 11-7-2002, arrested Soe Aung (a) Aeik
Aung together with 4,000 stimulant tablets who was trying to illegally immigrate
from Maka Okham jetty, Tachilek, into other country. Action was taken against
Soe Aung (a) Aeik Aung, 42, son of U Ba Yin of San Saing Ward, Tachilek under
the Sections 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psycho-tropic Substances Law by
Tachilek police station. The Tachilek District Court heard the case and
sentenced Soe Aung (a) Aeik Aung to 5 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and
20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve separately on 7-11-2002.

Drug
traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 29 Nov
– A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Kawthoung
Special Anti-drug Squad searched a motor boat at Myoma jetty in Kawthoung on
3-6-2002. Authorities arrested Kyaw Zeya together with 0.8 litres of Mesa dyne
liquid in eight bottles and 0.72 liters of Pecodyl in sixth bottles. Action was
taken against Kyaw Zeya, 34, son of U Myint Thein of Ywama Street, Shwehintha
Ward, Kawthoung, under Section 15/ 19(A)/ 20(B) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.
Kawthoung District Court
sentenced him to four years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 20 years’
imprisonment under Section 20 (B) to serve separately on 30 September.
Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Myitkyina Special Anti-drug
Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched a passenger vehicle with number plate 9 Ka/
1019 en route from Manwein village to Waingmaw in Waingmaw and seized 816 grams
of raw opium from the bag of passenger Lahtaw Zawlu on 11-4-2002. Action was
taken against Lahtaw Zawlu, 18, son of U Lahtaw Zaw Lay of Ward-5, Waingmaw,
under Section 15/ 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Myitkyina District Court handed down 11 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A)
on him on 10 July.

Narcotic drugs seized in Tamu, Muse, Kutkai
Yangon, 26 Nov –
A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Special Anti-drug
Squad and police forces on5 November, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of
Maung Moss, son of U Chit Aye, of Sandagu 1-Ward, Tamu, and nabbed him together
with 5.25 kilos of Ephedrine.
Similarly, on 13 November,
another combined team arrested Yi Aung, son of Yan Shauk Pha of No Ha/ 399,
Ganggaw branch, Homon Ward, Muse, and Yaung Sein Htan, son of U Yuk Tha of
Ward-3, Nantphatkha Village, Kutkai, together with two kilos of raw opium after
they were stopped and searched while riding a motor cycle with number plates
MaSa/1454 near Nampaw Bridge in Muse.
A similar combined team arrested
Ma Wan El with 1,300 stimulant tablets at the house of Ma Arlan, daughter of U
Wan Kyu, in Narnwe Village Tract in Kutkai on 20 November. Action is being taken
against them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police
station concerned.

Drugs seized in Muse and
Kyukoke
Yangon,
20 Nov – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched Ma Nan Htan, daughter of U
Zaw Kham of Phaingkaung Village, Muse Township, and Ma Mar Taung, daughter of U
La Yaw, near Khalin Village, Phaingkaung Village-tract, Muse Township, Shan
State (North), on 21 October and arrested them together with 10 blocks of heroin
weighing 3.5 kilos.
Similarly, the combined team searched Ma La Bya Htu, daughter
of U La Bya La of Nawnghkio Village, Teemar Village-tract, Muse Township, and Ma
Khun Taung, daughter of U Guan Tu of Shansaikku Village, Tamoenye Village-tract,
Kutkai Township, acting on a tip-off, at new Shwe Thamin Ward in Muse Township
on 1 November. The team seized 29 soap cups of heroin weighing 586 grams.
Likewise, the combined team, acting on information, searched the house No-14,
Ward 3, Kyukoke (Pensang), Shan State (North), on 6 November and arrested Kyan
Kwe Sein, son of U Kyan Phu Paung of Moepaw Village, Muse Township, together
with 4 kilos of heroin and one Beijing Jeep.
Action is being taken against them under Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by the police station concerned.

Opium refinery exposed in
Laukkai
Yangon,
13 Nov -A combined team comprising local Tatmadawmen, members of local
intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, stormed and
combed Shapanike Village and surrounding area in Laukkai Township on 28 and 29
October and seized 25 kilos of Ammonium Chloride, 50 kilos of Calcium Carbide,
22.15 litres of Lysol and 7 baskets and 5 Pyi of opium seeds.
On 30 October and 1 and 2 November, the combined team combed
the same area and seized an opium refinery together with 4 tents, 675 litres of
Lysol, 18 liters of Hydrochloric Acid, 67.5 liters of Acetone, 67.5 liters of
Ethyl Alcohol, 45 litres of mixture of opium and acid, 75 kilos of Ammonium
Hydrochloride, 5.542 kilos of opium, 28 blocks of Sudo Ephedrine, 2 glass
steamers, 3 enamel funnels, one iron tray, 4 gas stoves, one barrel, 19 baskets
of opium seeds, 2 M-21 automatic rifles, 2 magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition
and 6 kinds of paraphernalia.

Drugs refining paraphernalia

12 Nov – A combined team comprising local Tatmadaw men, members of intelligence
unit, MPF and Shan State Special Region-5, combed the areas of Panlway Village
in Kutkai Township, Shan State, on 3 November.
The authorities seized three huts together with 1,368 litre
of ether, 2304 litre of spirit, 36 litre of phosphate acid, 54 litre of
kerosene, 5 kilo of sodium chloride, 100 kilo of lime, 21 karosene stoves, 26
steel frying pans (small), 45 glass steamers (small), 20 long glass-tubes, 35
short glass-tubes, 2 steel steamers, 10 pipes with a length of 10 yards, 35
curved glass-tubes, 25 plastic bowls (small) and 12 plastic containers (small)
in the areas.
Action is being taken in connection with the seizure of the
narcotic drugs and paraphernalia by the police station concerned.

Raw opium and heroin seized
in Phakant and Kyukok
Yangon,
11 Nov – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit,
Special Anti-drug Squad and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information,
searched the house of Daw Nan Aye Swe, Ayemyathaya Ward, Phakant, Kachin State,
on 18 October and arrested her for possession of 3.266 grams of raw opium and
0.4899 kilogram of opium oil.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of the local
intelligence unit, Special Anti-drug Squad and Myanmar Police Force, acting on a
tip-off, searched the house of Yan Song of Kyukok, Shan State (North), on 27
October. Yan Song was arrested together with Yan Si and 7 heroin blocks weighing
2.38 kilograms.
Action is being taken against them under the Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police stations concerned.

Stimulant tablets and heroin
seized

8 Nov – Members of the local battalion stopped and searched a motorcycle en
route from Langkho to Mongpan between Linkhin and Kyanmaunglyan in Loilem
District on 20 October. Although the motorcyclist tried to escape, the
authorities managed to arrest him together with 116,000 stimulant tablets.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Muse Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Ma Nan Htan and Ma
Mar Taung on Pansang-Monkoe Road near Khahlan Village on 23 October, and seized
10 blocks of heroin weighing 3.5 kilos. Action is being taken against them under
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police stations concerned.

Drug traffickers arrested

angon, 1 Nov – Two
persons, a brother and a sister, were arrested for possession of 0.2 grams of
heroin and 1,843 stimulant pills in Namhsan, southern Shan State on 18
September.
A combined team comprising members of regional intelligence
unit and Myanmar Police Force searched the house of Aik Hse (a) Maung Myint at
22, Tabinshwehti Street, Ward 11 in the town and found the drugs in the
possession of Aik Hse and his younger sister Nang Hkam Nwan.
Similarly, a team formed with members of regional
intelligence unit and special anti-drug squad found 162 grams of heroin and
215.29 grams of opium from the homes of Daw Zein Hton Htu Htein and Daw Zein
Hton Kawh in Namtngon Village, Manse Township, Kachin State on 23 October.
Action has been taken against the drug traffickers under
Narcotic Drugs and Psychostropic Substances Law.
