Drug trafficker gets
fifty years
YANGON, 31 Oct-A combined team comprising
members of local intelligence unit and local Police Force, acting on
information, searched the house of Than Win (a) Pho Kyaw, 46, of Ward 7, Oaktha
Moythit, Bago at 4.15 am on 19 September 1999 and found 72 grams of heroin.
Action was taken against him in accord with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by No 4 Bago Police Station. The Bago District Court handed down
a sentence of twenty years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and thirty years’
imprisonment under Section 20 (A) on him to serve separately on 20 October 2000.

Man punished for
trafficking heroin
YANGON, 25 Oct – The Yangon East
District Court handed down a sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment on a man on 28
September this year.
A combined team comprising local intelligence unit and Yangon Division
Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Nay Zaw Tun and
seized 156.15 grams of heroin on 15 July evening. The Yankin Police Station
filed Nay Zaw Tun, 31, son of U Kyaw Nyunt, of No 36/B, Thitsar Street, Ward 12,
Yankin Township, under Section 15/ 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. The Yangon East District Court sentenced him to 5 years in
prison under Section 15 (A) and 20 years under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law consecutively.

Woman drug trafficker
gets twenty years
YANGON, 23 Oct – A combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit, Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad
and Railway Police Force, acting on information, searched No 10
Shwenyaung-Taze-Yangon Down-train at 10.30 am on 17 January 1999 and found three
packets of marijuana weighing 5.715 kilos from Ma Thin Thin Hla, 39, of
Pyinmabin Village, Mingaladon Township who was on the train. On further
investigation, Kyaw Wa, 51, and Ma Tin Nu, 41, of Ward 9, Kalaw who were related
to the case were arrested. Action has been taken against them in accord with
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Yangon Railway Police Station.
The Yangon East District Court handed down a sentence of twenty years’
imprisonment on Ma Thin Thin Hla under Section 19 (A) and five years’
imprisonment’s on Kyaw Wa and Ma Tin Nu under Section 15 on 28 September 2000.

Spellings of 12 kinds
of narcotics substituted
YANGON, 20 Oct – By exercising
the power given according to sub-section B of section 30 of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law, the Ministry of Health announced in its
notification on 20-4-93 that according to sub-section A of section 2 of that
law, 125 kinds of drugs were designated as narcotics. According to Notification
No 4/2000 issued yesterday by the Ministry of Health, out of these 125 kinds of
narcotics the spellings of 12 were substituted as follow Acetyl-dihydrocodeine,
Acetyl-methadol, Beta-hydroxyfen-tanyl, Clonitazene, Furethidine, Metazocine,
Methado-neintermediate, Metopon, Nicocodine, Norpipanone, Pholcodine and
Thebaine.

Drug traffickers get 25
years in prison
YANGON, 20 Oct – The Yangon West
District Court handed down a sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment each on two men
on 29 September this year. A combined team comprising local intelligence unit
and Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, at Lanthit Street, Lanmadaw Township, at
7.30 am on 19 April 2000, searched two suspects Lwin Soe and Win Htay and seized
2.562 kilograms of marijuana. The Lanmadaw Township Police Station filed Lwin
Soe, 30, son of U Hla Kyi, of Thukhathaya Street, Zegon Village, Shwepyitha
Township, and Win Htay, 32, son of U Thet Nyunt, Uyinthaya Street, the same
township, under Sections 15/19 (A)/ 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. Yangon West District Court sentenced the two to 25 years each in
prison under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

YANGON, 11 Oct –
The Toungoo District Court on 20 September this year punished a man giving 15
years in prison to him for trafficking heroin. A combined team comprising local
intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, on 25 July
2000, searched the house of Saw Phawgay, and arrested him together with 1.306
kgs of heroin. The Kyaukkyi Police Station filed Saw Phawgay, 27, son of U Al
Htoo, of Myitta Ward, Kyaukkyi, under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. The Toungoo District Court sentenced him to 15
years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law.

Woman drug trafficker gets

YANGON, 9 Oct –
Members of local intelligence unit, acting on information, searched a Dyna with
number plate 2Ka/8515 at the check point on No 2 Highway in Dagon Myotyhit
(South) Township at 7 pm on 12 March and arrested Daw Aye Myint, 50, of
Tagundine Village, Amarapura Township, with 263.3 grams of heroin. Dagon Myothit
(South) Police Station filed her under Sections 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law. Yangon (East) District Court handed down 25
years’ imprisonment on her under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law on 18 August.

YANGON, 4 Oct – A combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myitkyina special anti-drug
squad, acting on information, searched Ma Nyunt Yee and Ma Win Win Khaing at the
street in front of water supply station in Seikmu Village, Phakant Township, and
arrested them together with 2.116 kilos of raw opium on 2 July. The Phakant
Police Station filed Ma Nyunt Yee, 38, daughter of U Tun Shwe of Ward 1, Seikmu
Village and Ma Win Win Khaing, 49, daughter of U Chit Maung of Ward 4 of the
same village under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The
Myitkyina District Court handed down three years’ imprisonment under section 15
and twelve years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) on Ma Nyunt Yee to serve
separately and twelve years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) on Ma Win Win
Khaing on 21 August 2000.
