Seizures of Narcotic Drugs

From 18 September 1988 to 31 December 1998, the

Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and the Customs Department made the following seizures:

(a) Opium: A total of 28385.891 kilos

of opium was seized in 6621 cases. The seizures are shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

(b) Heroin: Seizures in this category amount to 4125.3104 kilos in 17995 cases. The seizures are shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

(c) Marijuana: A total of 6606.2350 kilos of marijuana was seized in 5958 cases, as shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given

below:

 

(d) Phensedyl: 33807.8114 litres of phensedyl were seized in 2282 cases, as shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

(e) Stimulants: Seizure of Amphetamine tablets begin in 1996. During 1996, 1997 and 1998 a total of 26961843

tablets was seized in 244 cases as shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

(f) Acetic Anhydride and other

chemical solution: 13829.61 gallons of acetic anhydride which is

mainly used in heroin refining were seized in 44 offences and 43003.345 gallons of other chemical solutions

were seized in 42 offences as shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

Seizures of Narcotic Drugs by the Tatmadaw Military Operation;

The Tatmadaw which is one of the anti-drug units made the following seizures;

(a) Opium refinery: From 1989 to 31 December 1998, total of 98 refineries were uncovered and destroyed.

Seizures made in this respect are illustrated in the following bar graph on yearly basis:

 

(b) Opium:

A total of 12008.073 kilos of opium was seized, as shown on yearly basis in the bar graph given below:

 

(c) Heroin: Seizures in this category amount to 1475.8868 kilos as shown In the bar graph given below on yearly basis:

 

(d) Marijuana: Seizures in

this category amount to 435.1851 kilos as shown in the bar graph below on yearly

basis:

 

(e) Phensedyl: 1563.1 liters

were seized as shown in the bar graph given below on yearly basis: 

 

(f) Stimulants: Amphetamine tablets totalling 608313 were seized, such seizures being recorded between 1996,

1997 and 1998 only. There are no record of previous seizures.

(g) Acetic Anhydride and other chemical solutions: A total of 5385.24 gallons of Acetic Anhydride which is used in

heroin refining, and 29025.98 gallons of other chemical solutions were seized as shown in the bar graph below on yearly basis:

 

Setting Ablaze of Seized Drugs

Yangon, and the details are as shown below:

Confiscation of Drugs, Related Property and Capital

The Property Examination Committee, which was formed for the purpose of scrutinizing capital as well as

moveable/immovable property from drug-related offences in accordance with the 1993

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, confiscated property valued at K’ 96338373 from 1993 to 31 December,

1998.

Law Enforcement Personnel’s Promotion, Reward

and Punishment

With a view to carrying out the Anti-Narcotic campaigns widely and successfully, the personnel from Myanmar Police Force, those who had rendered stirring services to the country were rewarded deservedly while legal actions were taken against

those who had breached the rules and regulations in their services. From 1988 to 31December 1998, 84 officers and 138

other ranks were promoted, 231 officers and 407 other ranks were rewarded. Similarly, 21 officers and 37 other ranks were dismissed, and 22 officers and 17 other ranks were demoted and

transfered, and 14 officers and 11 other ranks were

reprimanded, and 2 officers were forced to retire.
