340 kilos of Ephedrine
powder seized in Mandalay

YANGON,
26 Feb – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, acting
on information, while wagting at the junction of Theikpan Road and 65th Street,
Chanmya Thazi Township, nabbed drug traffickers Ko Naing (a) Ko Ko (a) Kimmy,
son of U Thonzalan, of No 5 Region of Kalay Township and Kyin Khant Zan, son of
U Salda Kyin, of No 9 Region of Panglong Ward, Kalay Township together with 155
kilos of Ephedrine powder on 8 February. Further investigation led to the arrest
of Khin Zaw, son of U Aung Thein, of Zedan, Tagundaing Ward, Pyigyi Tagun
Township, Mandalay, and Thein Naing, son of U Sein Hla, Kamawatan, Tagundaing
Ward, Pyigyi Tagun Township, Mandalay.
Upon further
investigation, the team seized 130 kilos of Ephedrine hidden in Zedan,
Tagondaing Ward, Pyigyitagun Township, Mandalay, on 9 February. While searching
the house of Aung Kyaw Win, Zedan, Tagundaing Ward, Pyigyitagun Township,
Mandalay, the team arrested Maung Maung Thein, son of U Nyo Win, younger brother
of Aung Kyaw Win on 10 February. After questioning him, the team searched the
house of U Kyaw Maung, Shartawlay village, Amarapura Township, and seized 55
kilos of Ephedrine powder.
In these incidents,
five traffickers were arrested together with 340 kilos of Ephedrine powder.
Action is taken-against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law.
