24th Meeting of Heads of National Drugs Law Enforcement

Agencies of Asia and the Pacific

Region (HONLEA) concludes

The 24th Meeting of Heads of National Drugs Law Enforcement

Agencies of the Asia and the Pacific Region (HONLEA) sponsored by the United

Nations Drugs Control Programme (UNDCP) and hosted by Myanmar, successfully

concluded at the Hotel Equatorial in Yangon on 17 November, 2000.

Present on the occasion were officials of INTERPOL and UNDCP,

delegates of ASEAN, delegations from Australia, Azerbaijan, the People’s

Republic of China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Fiji, Macao Special

Administrative Region, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lao People’s

Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines,

Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

This was followed by a general round of discussions.

Force Pol. Maj-Gen. Soe Win made a concluding address.

In his address, he said that the meeting was held in order to

seek better ways and means for cooperation after understanding each other’s

situation and problems and it could be attributed to strengthening and enhancing

the common base of cooperation among law enforcement officers who are working

towards a common goal.

The distinguished delegates who were attending the meeting

put forward their excellent and very informative presentations which include the

four working group topics namely illicit trafficking of heroin and abuse,

electronic crimes or cyber crimes, ATS control and illicit trafficking by sea,

and these presentations led to very open and frank discussions from the floor,

and making the meeting a success.

Trust and confidence could be built among law enforcement

officers and law enforcement agencies through sharing experiences and giving

thoughtful insights and inputs.

He said he would like to thank Ms Joanne Grieg and Mr. Ian

Munroe of UNDCP for their kind assistance and advice to make the meeting running

smoothly and successfully from beginning to the end.

The meeting came to a close at 10:30 am.
