312 drug-related cases exposed
in March
YANGON,
27 April – The Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force and the Customs Department
could exposed 312 drug-related cases in March.
The authorities seized 90.944 kilos of opium in 35 cases, 6.0821 kilos of
heroin in 114 cases, 0.1962 kilo of morphine in one case, 1.0804 kilos of
low-grade opium in 12 cases, 18.7517 kilos of marijuana in 58 cases, 13.7 liters
of Phensedyl in four cases, 3,312,725 stimulant tablets in 36 cases, 0.01 kilo
of stimulant powder in one case, 213.429 kilos of Ephedrine in five cases, 3.9
Liters of cough syrup in two cases, 385.3717 liters of acid in one case, 100
kilos of chemicals powder, 0.375 kilo of opium paper in two cases and 41 cases
for failure to register.
Seizures made by the Tatmadaw regiments and units were 12.8575 kilos of
opium, 0.2Y,39 kilo of heroin, 12.2470 kilos of marijuana, 1,988,346 stimulant
tablets and 97 kilos of Ephedrine.
The Myanmar Police Force seized 78.8865 kilos of opium in 35 cases, 5.7982
kilos of heroin, 0.1962 kilo of morphine in one case, 1.0804 kilos of low-grade
opium in 12 cases, 6.5047 kilos of marijuana in 58 cases, 13.07 liters of
Phensedyl in four cases, 1,324,379 stimulant tablets in 36 cases, 0.01 kilo in
stimulant powder in one case, 116.429 kilos of Ephedrine in five cases, 3.9
liters of cough syrup in two cases, 385.3717 liters of acid in one case, 100
kilos of chemicals powder, 0.375 kilo of opium paper in two cases and 41 cases
for failure to register.
Seizures made by the Tatmadaw and the Myanmar Police Force were 63.1647 kilos
of opium in 18 cases, 5.6008 kilos of heroin in 17 cases, 8.3 liters of
Phensedyl in two cases, 4.2659 kilos of marijuana in four cases, 1,214,764
stimulant tablets in 18 cases and 12.7 kilos of Ephedrine in one case. Action
was taken against 439 persons?364 men and 75 women? involved in 312 cases.

Fourth Myanmar Thailand
Cross Border Meeting on Narcotics Law Enforcement Cooperation held in Kengtung
YANGON,
27 April – The Fourth Myanmar-Thai1and Cross Border Meeting on Narcotics Law
Enforcement Cooperation was held at the New Kengtung Hotel in Kengtung, Shan
State (East), on 24 and 25 April.
The meeting at grassroots level was held on 24 April
and the senior officer level meeting on 25 April. The meeting was attended by
Myanmar delegation led by Secretary of Myanmar Central Committee for Drug Abuse
Control Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Col Soe Win, Thai delegation
led by Secretary-General of Narcotics Control Board of Thailand Mr Sorasit
Sangprasert, Adviser Mr Yngve Danling of Bangkok-based office of United Nations
International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP).
The meeting focused on cooperation in narcotic drug
control, difficulties and future tasks, and exchanged information about narcotic
drugs. The senior officers of both countries led by Director-General of MPF
Police Maj-Gen Soe Win also toured Mongla Narcotic Drug Free Zone of Special
Region-4.
