YANGON, 27 Sept-A combined

team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Myanmar Police Force and

Myitkyina Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of

Daw Me of Lonkhin Village in Phakant Township, and arrested her together with

4.245 kilos of raw opium kept in a tin box on 3 July. The Phakant Police Station

filed her under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The

Myitkyina District Court sentenced Daw Me to fifteen years’ imprisonment under

section 19 (A) on 21 August 2000.

Woman jailed for

trafficking stimulant tablets

YANGON, 22 Sept –

The Mandalay District Court sentenced a woman to 14-years imprisonment for

trafficking stimulant tablets, on 30 August 2000. A combined team comprising

local intelligence unit and members of Pyigyidagon Township Police Station,

acting on information, searched Ma Aye Shwe who was putting up at Room No 1 of

Man Shwe Myodaw Lodging House on 31st Street (between 80th Street and 81st

Street) in Mandalay and arrested her together with 3,949 stimulant tablets on 9

March 2000. The Mandalay Police Station No 8 filed Ma Aye Shwe, 45, daughter of

U Yan Kwe Hsai, of Hmawthitgon Ward in Phakant in accordance with Narcotic Drugs

and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Mandalay District Court then sentenced her

to 14 years imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law.

Drug trafficker gets

life imprisonment

YANGON, 21 Sept – A combined team

comprising local intelligence unit and North Okkalapa Township MPF, acting on

information, searched the house of Thein Win, 56, son of U Shein, of No 202, 6th

Thumeitta Street, Ward 1, North Okkalapa, on 28 April 1999, and arrested him

together with 116.20 grams of heroin. The authorities also arrested Ma Khin Cho

Cho, 42, daughter of U Shein, Zaw Win Tun (a) Thagyi, 22, son of U Tun Win,

Thura Win, 21, son of U Nyo Win, Aung Aung Myint, 19, son of U Hla Myint, Thiha

Tun, 21, son of U Thaung Nyunt, Kyin Lwin, 32, son of U Aye Kyi, of the same

ward, Myint Aye, 40, son of U Pho Kyi, of Mayangon Township, Tun Thein (a)

Kyigan, 38, son of U Tun Khin, of the same township, Win Oo, 30, son of U Kyaw

Aye, of South Okkalapa Township who are involved in the case. The ten were filed

under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by North Okkalapa

Police Station. Thein Win was sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 20

(A) and 5 years imprisonment under Section 15 while the rest were sentenced to

15 years imprisonment each under Section 20 (A)/21 by Yangon East District Court

on 28 August 2000.

Drug possessor jailed

for 15 years

YANGON, 19 Sept-A combined team

comprising local intelligence unit and Kyonpyaw Township MPF, acting on

information, searched the house of Zaw Min Lwin (a) Tayokkyi on Strand Road,

Kyonpyaw, on 13 December 1999 and seized 143 grams of marijuana. Zaw Min Lwin

(a) Tayokkyi, 29, son of U Win Maung, was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Kyonpyaw Police Station. He was sentenced to 10

years imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and 5 years’ imprisonment under Section

15 to serve separately by Pathein District Court on 24 August 2000.

Drug traffickers

punished

YANGON, 15 Sept-A

combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, local battalion and

Lashio Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, stopped and searched a

white Sunny light truck (Pa/5334) which was on its way from Laukkai to Lashio,

and driven by San Oo at Yaypu Check Point in Hsenwi Township on 23 January 2000

and arrested Than Htay who was in the car together with 112 packets of stimulant

containing 224,000 stimulant tablets weighing 20.16 kilos. San Oo, 20, son of U

Nyo Win, of Ward 1, Lashio and Than Htay, 29, son of U Than, of Ward 8, Lashio,

were filed under Section 15/19 (A)/2 1 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law by No 1 Lashio Police Station. San Oo was sentenced to 20 years’

imprisonment under Section 19 (A), and Than Htay to 20 years’ imprisonment under

Section 19 (A) and 4 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 to serve separately by

Lashio District Court on 21 August 2000.

Drug trafficker gets 20

years’ imprisonment

YANGON, 12 Sept – A combined

team comprising members of the local Intelligence Unit and Myanmar Police Force,

acting on information searched a Dyna light truck with the number plate 1Ka/7735

at Fourth Miles Check Point in Taungoo and arrested Khin Maung Win, 23, of

Kyaukgyi Township together with 4.572 kilos of marijuana at 11 am on 22 May.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Taungoo District Court handed down twenty years’

imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on him on 1 August 2000.

Three

men get imprisonment

YANGON,

11 Sept – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and

Tachilek Township Police Force, acting on a tip-off, raided and searched Room-

No 206, Hninzi Guest House, Makaokhan Ward, Tachilek Township, at 6.00 pm on 7

March 2000. The team seized 30,600 stimulant tablets from Aik Lon, Sam Net and

Aik Sam who were staying at the guest house.

Tachilek Police Station

opened a case according to Sections 15/19 (A)121 of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law against Aik Lon, 22, son of U Arnam, of Wabawnet

Village, Mongyun, Sam Net, 19, son of U Aikpe Lu, of WanU Village, Panhsan

Township, and Aik Sam, 20, son of U Aik Kat.

The case was sent to

Tachilek Township Court. On 31 July, the court sentenced Aik Lon to three years’

imprisonment according to Section 15 and 16 years’ imprisonment according to 19

(A) to run separately, and Aik Sam and San Net to 16 years’ imprisonment.

YANGON, 6 Sept – A combined team

comprising members of the local Intelligence Unit and Railway Police Force,

acting on information searched a suspect at Shwebo Railway Station and arrested

Lin Zaw, 29, of Tram Village, Tangyan Township in Shan State (South) together

with 2.776 kilos of raw opium on 13 March. The Shwebo Police Force filed him

under section 15/l9(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The

Shwebo District Court handed down thirty years’ imprisonment under Section 19

(A) on him on 18 July 2000.

Woman drug trafficker

gets 25 years

YANGON, 4 Sept – Members of the

local Intelligence Unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information searched

a suspect at the corner of Kyaikkasan Road and Zay Street in Tamwe Township and

arrested Ma Thida (a) Marima, 33, of Kyansittha Street, Ward 71, Dagon Myothit

(South) together with 82.67 grams of marijuana on 18 May 1999.

Action was taken against her in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Yangon East District Court handed down twenty-five years’

imprisonment under Section l9(A) on her on 31 July.
