Heroin seized in Muse

Yangon,

30 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the houses of Kyaw Myat,

son of U Swe Sai of Homon Ward, Muse, Shan State (North) and Ma Aye Pant,

daughter of U Ywat Kham Sai on 20 April and arrested Kyaw Myat, Ma Aye Pant and

Sai Aung Sar, son of U Swe Nginn of Tonkhan Village, Muse, Aik Kyaw, son of U

Kyaung Kham of Namphatan Village, Muse, Ma Kham Chai, daughter of U Ywet Kham of

Homan Ward, Muse and Ma Kham Sa, daughter of U Kham Hlaing of Auk Ton Village,

Muse, who were at the houses.

According to interrogation, the authorities seized 1.066

kilos of heroin kept in 66 soap cases hidden in the bushes in the compound of

the house of Kyaw Myat. Action was taken against them by the police station

concerned under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Marijuana traffickers sentenced

Yangon,

28 April – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and

Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Daw

Myint Swe on 5th street in Ward 3-B, Mingaladon Township, on 30 September 2001

and seized 2.0738 kilos of marijuana. Action was taken against Daw Myint Swe,

50, daughter of U Than Hla, and Aung Kyaw Zan, 35, son of U Childna Aung of

Kalai Village in Thanatpin Township, Bago Division, under section 15/19 (A)/21

of the Narcotic Drugs and Psycho-tropic Substances Law by the police station

concerned. Yangon (North) District Court handed down 25 years’ imprisonment each

under section 19(A) on Daw Myint Swe and Aung Kyaw Zan on 29 March this year.

Heroin traffickers sentenced

27 April – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and

Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched a Dyna with number plate

Hta/6745 of No 11 Bus Line at Ohnchaw Police Station in Patheingyi Township, at

7 am on 1 July 2001 and seized 189.02 grams of heroin kept in 10 soap boxes in

three handbags of passenger U Aung Din.

Ohnchaw Police Station filed U Aung Din, 65, son of U Pu Tin

of Laypangon village in Mahlaing Township, his accomplices Thet Mon Oo, 29, son

of U Soe Thein of Ward 9, Lashio, and Tun Maw Oo, 35, son of U Mya Lwin of Ward

11 in Lashio under Sections 15/19 (A)/21 under the Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law. On 15 March 2002, Mandalay District Court sentenced

U Aung Din and Tun Maw Oo to 20 years’ imprisonment each under Section 19 (A) of

the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and Thet Mon Oo to 20 years’

under Section 19 (A) and four years’ imprisonment under Section 15 of the law to

serve separately.

Drug traffickers sentenced

24 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

local police force, acting on information, searched a bus with number plates 4

Kha/3119 which was on its way from Taunggyi at Phayangazu Village, Thazi

Township, and seized 4.980 kilos of marijuana and 138.805 grams of raw opium

inside the bags of Thein Lwin Aye and Zaw Myo Tun on 9 July 2001.

Thazi Police Station filed Thein Lwin Aye, 20, son of U Thein

Oo of Kalaw and Zaw Myo Tun, 23, son of U Tun Lin of Kalaw, under Section 15/19

(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Meiktila District Court

heard the case and sentenced Thein Lwin Aye to 15 years’ imprisonment under

Section 19 (A) and five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 to serve

separately, and Zaw Myo Tun to 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on 21

March 2002.

Phensedyl seized in Tiddim

Yangon, 24 April – A combined

team comprising members of local intelligence unit and regiment, while

discharging duty in the region, seized a total of 40.3 liters of handedly liquid

in 403-100-mililitre bottles from Kham Za Tun near the Tiddim Bridge on 25

September 2001.

Tiddim Police Station filed Kham Za Tun, 43, son of U Man Za

Kat of Pyidawtha Ward, Kalay Township, under Section 15/19 (A)/20(B)/21 of

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Falam District Court handed down

a ten-year imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and a fifteen-year imprisonment

under Section 20 (B)/21 on Kham Za Tun to serve concurrently on 13 March 2002.

22 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad searched the house of Tin Aye at Room 205,

Building 5, Shwe Hti Housing Complex in Ward-1, Mayangon Township, on 26 April

2001 and seized 93.8 gm of heroine and 177 stimulant tablets. Actions was taken

against Tin Aye, 53, son of U Hla Kyi under section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs

and Psychotropic Substances Law by Bayintnaung police station. Yangon (West)

District Court handed down 25 years’ imprisonment under section 19(A) on Tin Aye

on 29 March this year.

21 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad searched the house of Maung Kyaw on Gyogone East

1st street in Insein Township on 18 July 2001 and seized 6.128 Kilos of

marijuana. Actions were taken against Maung Kyaw, 41, son of U Tun Shwe, Maung

Soe, 32, son of U Hla Han of Thayetaw Village, Htantabin Township, Hla Htay, 28,

son of U San Thein, Thein Myint Swe, 24, son of U Aye Win and Win Kyi, 45, son

of U Tun Wa of Gwai Village, Htantabin Township and Hla Aye, 26, son of U San

Thein of Kyundaw Village, Kyaukkyi Township, under section 15/19(A)/21 of

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police station concerned.

Yangon (North) District Court handed down 25 years’ imprisonment under section

19 (A) on Maung Kyaw, 5 years’ imprisonment under section 15 and 20 years’

imprisonment under section 19 (A)/21 on Maung Soe to serve separately and 20

years’ imprisonment under section 19(A)/21 on Hla Htay, Thein Myint Swe, Win Kyi

and Hla Aye on 14 March this year.

Marijuana traffickers sentenced

20 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

local police force, acting on a tip-off, searched a bus with plate numbers Sa/

7146 at the Toll Gate at the. .entrance to Bago and arrested passengers Chit

Thein and Than Nyunt together with 4.7 kilos of marijuana on 9 December 2000.

Action was taken against I Chit Thein, 19, son of U Nyunt of

Kyaukkyibakkan Village, and Than Nyunt, 55, son of U Tun of Nyaungbin Village,

Htantabin Township, under section 15/19 (A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Bago No-1.Police Station. Bago District Court

handed down three years’ imprisonment under section 15 and twelve years’

imprisonment under section 19 (A) on Chit Thein to serve separately and twelve

years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) on Than Nyunt on 26 March this year.

Two drug dealers sentenced

Yangon, 19 April

– A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago Special

Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched a vehicle (4 Kha 5481) which

was on its way from Toungoo at the Toll Gate at the entrance to Bago on 12

December and arrested Soe Aung (a) Nay Lin and Ma Hla Myint together with 4.75

kilos of marijuana.

Action was taken against Soe Aung (a) Nay Lin, 34, son of U

Min Aung, of Chinbo Village, Hinthada Township and Ma Hla Myint, 32, daughter of

U Shwe of Nyaungbintha Village, Pyu Township under Section 15/19(A)/21 of

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Bago No 1 Police Station.

The two were sentenced to three years in prison under Section

15 and 12 years under Section 19 (A) to serve separately by Bago District Court

on 26 March 2002.

Narcotic drugs dealers jailed

Yangon,

9 April – The Toungoo District Court sentenced prison terms on two narcotic drug

dealers on 20 March 2002. The combined team of local intelligence unit and Bago

Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, waiting in Zwepo Cafe in Yaykhe Kwetthit,

Zeedaing Ward, Toungoo Township, and searched Sa Thant Zin Ohn, 26, son of U Ohn

Kyaing of Kyauktaing Village, Toungoo Township, and Soe Lwin, 36, son of U Po

Htein of Hsaya Phye Street, Ward 1, Toungoo, entering the cafe and seized 5.7135

kilos of marijuana from them on 31 October 2001. The Toungoo Police Station

filed a case against them. The Toungoo District Court heard the case and

sentenced the former to 20 years under Section 19 (A) and the latter to 5 years

under Section 15 and 15 years under Section 19 (A) 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law, to serve separately.

Drug dealers jailed

Yangon,

8 April – A combined team including members of local intelligence unit and Yagon

Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, on 6 February 2001 searched Soe Myint at

the corner of Anawrahta Road and 33rd Street and seized three blocks of heroin

weighing 1.065 kilos from his suitcase.

In connection with the case, Kyauktada Police Station filed

Soe Myint, 42, son of U Khin Pe of No 93, U Chit Maung Street, Saya San Ward

(South), Bahan Township, and Soe Aung, 46, son of U Tin Shein of Kyungalay

Village in Latpadan Township under section 15/19(A)/20(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs

and Psychotropic Substances Law. On 11 March 2002, Yangon District Court (West)

sentenced Soe Myint to 20 years’imprisonment under section 19 (A) and Soe Aung

to five years’ under section 15.
