against drugs cases. A total of 9882 males and 1979 females totaling 11861-dath
sentence to 20 males, life sentence to 276 males and 26 females totaling 302,
above 10 year’s imprisonment to 3076 males and 1005 females totaling 4081, and
under 10 year’s imprisonment to 6510 males and 948 females totaling 7458 were
punished during the period from 1999 to July 2002.

Drug trafficker gets 18
years
Yangon, 16 July
-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and local police
force, acting on information, searched the room of Ye Tun in Ward 1, Myawady, on
1 January this year and seized 1,401 stimulant tablets.
Action was taken against Ye Tun, 23 son of U Maung Ko of
Khantilay Village, Myittha Township, under Section 15/19 (A)/20 (A) (B) / 21 of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the Myawady Police Station.
Myawady District Court handed down 18 years’ imprisonment on
him under Section 19 (A)/21 on 23 May .

Drug trafficker sentenced
Yangon, 15 July
– A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and local police
force, acting on a tip-off, on 11 November 2001, searched Ma Khine at Ward-3 (Kha)
in Mingaladon Township and seized 8.49 kilos of marijuana from her. In
connection with the case, Mingaladon Police Station filed a case Ma Khine, 30,
daughter of U Thaung of No 2 Street, Ward-6, DaikU Township, under section 15/19
(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Yangon North District
Court handed down 25 years’ imprisonment on her under section 19 (A) on 20 May
2002.

Drug trafficker sentenced
Yangon, 13 July
– The combined team made up of members of the local intelligence unit and
Railway Police Force, acting on information, ransacked the Lashio-Mandalay No
132 down-train at PyinOolwin Railway Station on 20 March evening and seized
24.48 gm of heroin from Daw Mya Win at seat number 37 in carriage 4. Action was
taken against Daw Mya Win , 51, daughter of U Shwe Soe of Ward 9, Region 2 in
Lashio under Section 15/ 19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law by PyinOolwin Police Station. PyinOolwin District Court on 15 May handed
down 4 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 20 years’ imprisonment on her
under Section 19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law to
serve separately.

Yangon, 12 July
– A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and the
railway police force, acting on information, searched Daw Tin Ooh, who was
travelling on the Lashio-Mandalay No 132 down train, at PyinOoLwin Station on 20
March and found 36.72 grams of heroin on her. Daw Tin Ooh, 53, daughter of U
Pauk of Thawutti Village, Lewe Township, was registered in a lawsuit by
PyinOoLwin Police Station under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. After hearing the case on 15 May, PyinOoLwin
District Court sentenced her to 4 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 20
years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve separately.

Marijuana trafficker gets 15

– A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and the Bago
Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Lay Myint (a) Lay Maung
at the corner of Pabedan and Tayoktan Streets in Pyay at 9.15 pm on 8 January
this year, and seized 28.57 grams of marijuana. Pyay No-1 Police Station filed
Lay Myint (a) Lay Maung, 32, son of U Tin Maung of No-359, Shwethway Pagoda
Street, Sandaw Ward, Pyay, under Section 15/19 (A)/20 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. Pyay District Court handed down 15 years’
imprisonment on him under Section 19 (A) on 20 June.

Force, on 20 March 2002, searched Daw Ohn Hla of seat No 35, carriage-3, of
Lashio-Mandalay down-train No 132 on arrival at PyinOoLwin Station and seized
48.96 grams of heroin from her. In connection with the case, PyinOoLwin Police
Station filed Daw Ohn Hla, 52, daughter of U Than Maung of Thawutti village,
Lewe Township, under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. On 15 May, PyinOoLwin District Court handed down five years’
imprisonment under section 15 and 20 years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) of
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on Daw Ohn Hla to serve
separately.

combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Taunggyi Special
Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a truck with number plates
1ka/ 7057 at the entrance to Taunggyi on 6 August 2001 and seized 3,429,300
stimulant tablets hidden under the floor of the truck together with one pistol,
one magazine and three rounds of ammunition from driver Aik Tun.In connection
with the case, Taunggyi Police Station No 2 filed Aik Tun (a) Tun Aye, 43, son
of U Paw Sar Oo of Region 19, Lashio, and Than Latt, 23, son of U Aung Than of
Banapan Village, Namsang Township under section 15/19 (A) 21/22 (B) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Taunggyi District Court handed down life
imprisonment on Aik Tun (a) Tun Aye under section 19(A)/22(B) and life
imprisonment on Than Latt under section 19 (A)/21 on 30 April 2002.

Marijuana trafficker sentenced
Yangon, 6 July –
A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Bago Special
Anti-drug Squad and the local Myanmar Police Force, acting on information,
searched Zaw Win at Hsemyaung Junction near Nyaungbingyi Village on
Toungoo-Htantabin Road on 16 January this year and seized 1.47 kilos of
marijuana from his basket. Action was taken against Zaw Win, 30, son of U Win
Myint of Pepoke Village in Htantabin Township under Section 15/19 (A) of the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police station concerned.
Toungoo District Court handed down 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A)
and four years’ imprisonment under Section 15 on him to serve separately on 13
June this year.

Precursor chemicals possessor sentenced
Yangon,
5 July – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Taunggyi Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, stopped and searched a
Hilux car with number plate 1/Kha 8342 on 2 July, 2001 in Taunggyi and seized
19.9584 kilos of hydrochloric acid, 50 kilos of ammonium chloride and 200 kilos
of sodium carbonate precursor chemicals used in refining opium.
Action was taken against Sai Khan Naw, 42, son of U Lwe Pon
of No 64, Cherry Road, Pyidawtha Ward, Taunggyi, under section 15/16 (B)/20
(A)/21 of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Law by Taunggyi Police
Station-2. Taunggyi District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on Sai
Khan Naw under section 20 (A)/ 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law on 29 May this year.

Armed drug traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 4 July
-Members of local intelligence unit and Lashio Special Anti-drug Squad, acting
on information, stopped and searched a Hino with number plates 3 Kha/ 5264
driven by Sai Kya Ohn (a) Aung Kyaing with conductor Myat Tun enroute from
Lashio to Mandalay at the entrance to Nawnghkio on 21 February night and found
106 packets of Metaphetamine crystal powder weighing 105.2 kilos, 14 100-dollar
notes and K 109,500. The authorities then searched the house of Sai Kya Ohn (a)
Aung Kyaing of Ward 12 in Lashio and found one M-22 pistol, a magazine and one
round of ammunition, one .22 long barrel gun, one magazine and 40 rounds of
ammunition, four rounds of Winchester ammunition and 14 rounds of 9 mm
ammunition. Lashio Police Station No 2 filed cases against Sai Kya Ohn (a) Aung
Kyaing, 27 of Ward 12 in Lashio, Myat Tun, 18, of Ward 1 in Mongye, Sai Laung
Hpa, 26, and Nan Kham Hum, 29, of Ward 12 in Lashio, Kyaw Moe Aung, 33, of Kyaw
Village in Myaing Township and Daw Mya Oo, 59, of Ward 12 in Lashio under
section 15/ 19 (A)/ 20 (A)/ 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law, Arms Act 19 (F) and Foreign Currency Exchange Act 24 (1). The Lashio
District Court handed down 30 years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A), 3 years’
imprisonment under Arms Act 19 (F) and 3 years’ imprisonment under Foreign
Currency Exchange Act 24 (1) on Sai Kya Ohn (a) Aung Kyaing to serve separately,
and 10 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on Myat Tun, and one year’s
imprisonment under Arms Act 19 (F) each on Sai Laung Hpa, Kyaw Moe Aung and Nan
Kham Hum, and six months’ imprisonment under Foreign Currency Exchange Act 24
(1) on Daw Mya Oo on 9 May.

Drug traffickers sentenced deterrent punishments
Yangon, 3 July –
At 11.15 am on 27 October 2001, a combined team comprising members of the local
intelligence unit and Tachilek Anti-Drugs Squad, acting on information, searched
the house of Daw Mei Fong of Lunkyaing village in Tachilek and found 440,000
stimulant tablets, 600 grams of ephedrine powder and 3.4 kilos of caffeine
powder.
Daw Mei Fong, 46, daughter of U Jia Suo, and Aik Sam, 40, son
of U Lauk Aye of Tangyan, were filed according to Section 15/16(b)/19(a)/21 of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Tachilek police station. On 7
May 2002, Daw Mei Fong was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment under Section
16(b) and 25 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (a); and Aik Sam to five
years’ imprisonment under Section 15, seven years’ imprisonment under Section 16
(b) and 25 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (a). The sentences are to serve
separately.

Culprits related to drug cases sentenced
Yangon, 1 July , A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Tachilek Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Lauk Li at 27, Lun Keng Village, Tachilek Township, at 11 am on 27 October 2001, and seized 1,852,000 stimulant tablets and one kilo of Caffein in the bedroom and a saloon car with number plates 1Kha/8847.
Regarding the case, Tachilek Police Station filed Lauk Li, 42, son of U Lee Fatar of Pangsan, Ar Yon, 20, son of U Ar Chan and Ar San, 35, son of U Lauk Aye under Sections 15/16 (B)/19 (A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 7 May 2002, Tachilek District Court sentenced Lauk Li to 10 years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (B) and life imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and Ar Yon and Ar San to 5
years’ imprisonment each under Section 15 and 15 years’ imprisonment each under Sections 19 (A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law to serve separately.
