Drug dealer gets 13 years

Yangon, 25 June

– A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Mandalay

Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Min Min, one

mile away from Thayatpin Village (South) in PyinOoLwin Township on 13 February

2002 and seized 220 grams of marijuana packed with plastic bag. Pyinsa Police

Station in PyinOoLwin opened the case against Min Min (a) Khin Maung Than, 42,

son of U Tha Din under section 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. On 4 June 2002, PyinOoLwin District Court handed down 13 years’

imprisonment on him under section 19(A).

Drug Trafficker gets 12 years

Yangon – 24 June

-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and local police

force, acting on a tip-off, on 23 April afternoon, searched a shop in Anawmar

Ward, Thakayta Township and seized 15.3 grams of marijuana from Aung Khaing.

In connection with the case, No 1 Police Station, Thakayta

opened the case against Aung Khaing, 31, son of U Pan 00 of Anawmar Ward,

Thakayta Township, under section 15/16 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and psycho-

tropic Substances Law.

Thakayta Townsbip Court sentenced him to five years

imprisonment under section 15 and seven years imprisonment under section 16 (C)

to serve separately.

Drug trafficker gets 15 years

YANGON, 23 June

– On 2 May 200 1 , a combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit

and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched a Nissan truck with

number plates Ga/4599 en route from Mandalay at Kyun Creek Bridge in Tawkyweinn

and seized 26 polythene bags including ephedrine powder weighing 518 kilos.

In connection with the case, Tawkyweinn Police Station opened

the case against Tun Tun Oo, 28, son of U Tin Ria of the comer of 36th a.nd 73rd

Streets, Sekkyanwezin Ward, I Chanmyathazi Township, under section 19 (A) of the

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Bago District Court sentenced him to 15 years, imprisonment

under section 19 (A) on 17 May 2002.

Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 22 June

– A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Monywa

Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, intercepted a Hilux car with

number plates Da/8073 in Monywa on its way from Mandalay on 4 August, 2001 and

seized 161.37 kilos of raw opium. Action was taken against Myint Lwin, 39, son

of U Pyay Aye and Myint Swe, 39, son of U Tun Aung of Chanmyathazi Ward in

Monywa and Hla Swe, 42, son of U Ba Hlaing of Ayethaya Ward in Monywa under

section 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by

Monywa Police Station-1. Monywa District court handed down life imprisonment

each on them under section 19 (A) of the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances

Law on 9 May this year.

Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 21 June

– A combined team comprising local intelligence unit members and railway

policemen, acting on information, inspected Mandalay-Myitkyina No 55 Up-train at

Shwebo station on 28-8-2001 and seized 1.633 kilos of raw opium from Ma Kyi Wai

and Ma San San Htwe.

Action was taken against Ma Kyi Wai, 37, daughter of U Thi

Mya of Sagaing and Ma San San Htwe, 32, daughter of U Maung Win of Mohnyin

Township under section 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law by Shwebo Police Station. Shwebo District court handed down 22

years’ imprisonment each on the two under section 19 (A) of the Law on 9-5-2002.

Drug trafficker sentenced

Yangon,  20 June

, A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and the railway police force, acting on information, inspected Lashio-Mandalay train at PyinOolwin station on 31 March this year and seized 20.4 gm of heroin concealed in the sole of a pair of slippers held by Lon Shah Htan in his hand. He was a passenger in the first-class carriage.
Action was taken against Lan Shah Htan, 43, son of U Swa Kan of Ward 1, Region 6 in Lashio under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by PyinOolwin Police Station.
PyinOolwin District court handed down 20 years’  imprisonment on Lan Shah Htan under section 19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on 28 May this

year.

Raw opium seized in Thazi

Yangon, 17 June – A combined team comprising members of the

local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on a tip-off, searched

a passenger bus with number plates 3 Kha/3120, on its way from Taunggyi to

Yangon, in Thazi on 1 July 2001 evening, and seized 4.311 kilos of raw opium

hidden in a bag from passenger Ma Mya Nu (a) Ma Nge Lay. Thazi Police Station is

taking action against Ma Mya Nu (a) Ma Nge Lay, 31, daughter of U Hla Nu of Ward

9, Kale, under sections 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Meiktila District Court sentenced her to 20 years’

imprisonment under section 19(A) on 23 May 2002.

Drug dealer gets 15 years

Yangon, 16 June

– A combined team including members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek

Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched Than Kyaw (a) Po Htaung near

Meteorology & Hydrology Office, Ponehtun Ward, Tachilek, on 28 December 2001 and

seized 800 stimulant tablets together with him. In connection with the case,

Tachilek Police Station opened the case against Than Kyaw (a) Po Htaung, 32, son

of U Ba Chit of No 35, Mingala Oo Ward-7, Shwenyaung, under section 15/19(A)/21

of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Tachilek District Court

sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) on 8 May 2002.

Marijuana seized in Toungoo

Yangon, 15 June

– According to a confession of the accused Ma Phyu Phway of the case with FIR

13/2001 filed at Toungoo police station No 1, under section 15/ 19(A)/ 21 of the

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, a combined team comprising

members of local intelligence unit and local Police Force arrested Ma Thein Mya

together with 7.185 kilos of marijuana hidden in the bush on the north of her

house in Ward-20, Toungoo, at midnight on18 October 2001. The police station

filed up a case with FIR 14/2001 under section 15/ 19(A)/ 21 of the same law

against Ma Phyu Phway, 35, daughter of U Shwe Kyee of Ward-20, Toungoo, and Ma

Thein Mya, 40, daughter of U Myint Oo of U Htun Mya Street, Ward-155, Dagon

Myothit (North) Township. The Toungoo District Court sentenced each of the two

to 20 years’ imprisonment under section 19(A) on 30-4-2002.

Marijuana seized in Toungoo

Yangon, 13 June,  A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and local police force, acting on a tip-off, stopped a trishaw with number plate 584 and searched the passenger Ma San Aye and another trishaw with number plate 1084 and searched the passenger Ma Myint Myint Naing near Toungoo Station. The team seized 8.98 kilos of marijuana from them on 18 October 2001.
Toungoo Police Station No 1 is taking action against Ma San Aye, 45, daughter of U Kyaw Shein of Ward 155, Dagon Myothit (North), Ma Myint Myint Naing, 14, daughter of U Thet Naing of Ward 20, Toungoo, Kyee Sein, 40, son of U Hla Maung of Ward 13, Dagon Myothit (North) and Ma Phyu Phway, 35, daughter of U Shwe Kyi of Ward 20 Toungoo under Section 15/19 (A) /21 of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Toungoo District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on Ma San Aye under Section 19 (A)/21, 25

years’ imprisonment and five years’ imprisonment on Kyee Sein under Sections 19 (A) and 15 to serve separately and five

years’ imprisonment on Ma Phyu Phway under Section 15 on 30 April 2002. Toungoo Township Court is still hearing the case for Ma Myint Myint Naing

as she is only at the age of 14.

Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 5 June –

A combined team, comprising members of local intelligence unit and Lashio

Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, while waiting at Thazin Street

in Ward 11, Lashio, searched Yan Chan Aung and found 50,000 stimulant tablets in

his bag at 4 pm on 7 January 2002.

Further investigation revealed the owner of the pills, Li Kyi

Phu of 326, Kamaing Kyaung Street in Ward 12, Lashio. At 4.30 pm, the

authorities searched the house of Li Kyi Phu and arrested Li Kyi Phu and Li Ah

Sone together with 10,400 stimulant pills bearing the letters “WY” hidden in the

bushes in the yard. At 6.10 pm, on confession of Li Kyi Phu, the combined team

searched the house of Li Kyi Phu at Manna Village in the township and seized

400,000 more stimulants on his bed.

No 2 Lashio Police Station sued Yan Chan Aung, 30, and Li Kyi

Phu, 38, of Namhsam Street, Ward 4, Lashio, and Li Ah Sone, 36, of Hatkar

Street, Ward 12, Lashio, under Section 15/19 (A)/20 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs

and Psychotropic Substances Law. Lashio Township Court handed down 18 years’

imprisonment with labour on Yan Chan Aung under Section 19 (A), 15 years’

imprisonment with labour on Li Ah Sone under Section 19 (A)/21 and 25 years’

imprisonment with labour on Li Kyi Phu under Section 19 (A)/20/21 on 29 April

2002.
