Drug traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 31 May –
On 10 January 2002, members of Hsipaw Police Station, acting on information,
searched the house of Thein Naing of Konnyaung Village, Lashio Township. The
authorities found his wife Ma Jaywe with him in the house and seized 3.5 grams
of heroin from her. In connection with the case, Lashio No 1 Police Station
filed a lawsuit against both Ma Jaywe, 28, daughter of U Janaw of Konnyaung,
Lashio, and Thein Naing, 40, son of U Ko Lay under Section 15/19(A)/21. On 5
April 2002, Lashio Township Court handed down a 12-year imprisonment each on the
couple under Section 19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Drug traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 27 May –
A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Criminal
Investigation Department (CID) and Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on
information, searched Maung Maung Oo (a) Achauk at bus-stop at the corner of
Hlawga Road and Nawaday Road, Dagon Myothit (South) Township on 29 November 2001
and seized 4.9 gm of heroin. In connection with the case, Dagon Myothit (South)
Township Police Station filed Maung Maung Oo (a) Achauk, 29, son of U Mya Maung
of No 380, Tatphwet Road, Ward-1, Thakayta Township and Khin Maung Tint (a)
Shaphe, another drug trafficker, 25, son of U Ko Ko Naing of No 418 (A),
Aungchantha 5th street, Ward-70, Dagon Myothit (South) Township under section
15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. On 30 April
2002, Yangon East District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment each on them
under section 19 (A)/21.

Marijuana trafficker sentenced
Yangon, 26 May –
A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, and local Police
Force, acting on information, searched the house of Lu Aye at 2069 on Kanthaya
4th Street, Region 3 in Pathein on 27 November 2001 and seized 72.68 gm of
marijuana. Action was taken against Lu Aye, 48, son of U Kyaw Yin under section
15/19 (A)/20 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Athegyi Police Station. Pathein District Court handed down 15 years’
imprisonment under section 19 (A) on Lu Aye on 30 April this year.

Stimulant tablets seized in Kyauktada

2S May -A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence units and
Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched Ma Su Su (a) Su
Thet Hnin and Ma Htet Htet Aung in Global Restaurant on Pansodan Street in
Kyauktada Township on 5 October 2001. The authorities seized five stimulant
tablets from them.
Kyauktada Police Station filed Ma Su Su (a) Su Thet Hnin, 21,
daughter of U Tin Nyunt of Room 2 near Chawdwingon Bus-stop, Yankin Township,
and Ma Htet Htet Aung, 20, daughter of U Thein Win of No 209, ground floor, 38th
Street, Ward 6, Kyauktada Township. ” On 23 April 2002, Kyauktada Township Court
sentenced Ma Su Su (a) Su Thet Hnin and Ma Htet Htet Aung to seven years’
imprisonment under section 16 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law.

24 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Monywa Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of
Htay Win on Padauk street in Monywa on 28 January 2001 and seized 75 bottles of
Phensedyl totalling 7.5 litres.
Action was taken against Htay Win, 40, son of U Tha Nyan,
Hlaing Min Tun, 21, son of U Htay Win, Maung Maung, 36, son of U Than Hlaing of
Phayagyi Ward in Monywa and Ma Kyi Shwe, 49, daughter of U Pho Sar of Htantaw
Ward in Monywa under section 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Monywa Police Station-2. Monywa District court handed down 10
years’ imprisonment each under section 19 (A) on Htay Win and Maung Maung and 10
years’ imprisonment each under section 19 (A)/21 on Hlaing Min Tun and Ma Kyi
Shwe on 10-4-2002.

Illicit drug possessor jailed
Yangon,
23 May – Loilem District Court passed sentence on an illicit drug trafficker on
12 April this year. The combined team of the local intelligence unit and
Taunggyi Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Saing
Phone in Hsaihylan, Monghsu Township, at 6 pm on 6 January 2002 and seized 38
grams of heroin. Lwehsaunghtauk Police Station took action against Saing Phone,
29, son of U Aik Pan under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. Loilem District Court heard the case and sentenced
him to 15 years’ imprisonment under section 15 and 15 years’ imprisonment under
section 19 (A) to serve separately.

Drug traffickers sentenced

A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police
Force, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of U Byar Sai of LeU Ward, Mogok
on 24 November 2001 and seized 30.62 grams of opium. Action was taken against U
Byar Sai, 60, son of U Byar of LeU Ward, Mogok and Daw Alay Mee, 58, daughter of
U Kyin Tha under section 15/16 (C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. Mogok Township Court handed down five years’ imprisonment under
section 15 on U Byar Sai and seven years’ imprisonment under section 16 (C) on
Daw Alay Mee on 24 April this year.

Stimulant tablets possessors sentenced

22 May – A combined team comprising member of the local military intelligence
unit and Mandalay Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, raided the
house of Aik Lu in Myamarlar Ward, Ward 2, PyinOoLwin, at 1.30 pm on 3 July 2001
and seized nine stimulant tablets.
After further investigation, PyinOoLwin Police Station filed
Aik Lu, 36, son of U Ywet Kham and other culprits Kyaw Than, 42, son of U Zaw
Kha of 117, Myopat Road, Ward 6, PyinOoLwin and Daw Hswe Hsaing, 68, daughter of
U Aik Kwam of 163/B, Thuta Street, Ward 2, PyinOoLwin under Sections 15/16 (C),
20(A), 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Phychotropic Substances Law. On 2 April 2002,
PyinOoLwin District Court sentenced Aik Lu to six years’ imprisonment under
Section 16 (C), Kyaw Than to four years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and Daw
Hswe Hsaing to 16 years’ imprisonment under Section 20 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.

Two opium possessors sentenced
Yangon,
20 May – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched Aung Soe Moe on Ashayywa
Street near Beetaung Pagoda in Mogok at 5 pm on 22 November 2001 and seized
0.544 gram of dried opium and 8.165 grams of opium grime liquid. In connection
with the case, Mogok Police Station filed Aung Soe Moe, 25, son of U Khin Maung
Htay of Sipinthaya Ward, Mogok and Ma Tin Tin Aye, 49, daughter of U Law Shwe,
East Village, Mogok, under Sections 15/16 (C)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. On 24 April 2002, Mogok Township Court sentenced
Aung Soe Moe to seven years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C) and Ma Tin Tin
Aye to seven years imprisonment under Sections 16 (C)/ 21 of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.

Heroin, stimulant powder and ammunition seized
Yangon,
19 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, raided the house of
Aung Tun of Sanphu Village in Tachilek Township on 13 December, 2001 and
arrested Aung Tun, Ar Khaung and Aik Nwan together with a heroin block weighing
280 grams, three grams of stimulant powder, a revolver and five rounds of
ammunition.
Wanpon Police Station is taking action against Aung Tun, 36,
of Sanphu Village in Mong-phon Village-tract, Tachilek Township, Aik Nwan, 28,
and Ar Khaung, 24, of Shan Mein Village in Ward 1, Kengtung under the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Tachilek District Court handed 20 years’
imprisonment each under Section 19 (A) on Aung Tun and Ar Khaung and 15 years’
imprisonment under Section 19 (A)/21 on Aik Nwan on 25 April 2002.

Drug traffickers sentenced

18 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information received, intercepted a
motor vehicle with number plate Nange/4493 at Yinmabin camp on 13 June evening
in the year 2000 and seized 2098 packages of orange-coloured stimulant tablets
bearing WY letters, hidden in the floor and a secret drawer in the fuel tank.
With each package containing 1900 stimulant tablets, total amount of seized
tablets was 358.758 kilos and 3,986,200 tablets.
Action was taken against Ainamt, 30, son of U Hsanlu and
Saikhwet,46, son of U Nyimon of region 19 ward 12 in Lashio, and owner of the
stimulant tablets Kyaphe (a) Ahsein, 31, son of U Chinmhi of 43rd street in
region 13 ward 5, Lashio under section 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. Meiktila District court handed down 25 years’
imprisonment under section 19 (A) and 5 year’s imprisonment under section 15 on
Ainamt to serve separately and 25 years’ imprisonment each under section 19 (A)
on Saikhwet and Kyaphe (a) Ahsein on 10 April this year.

Marijuana traffickers sentenced

17 May – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago
Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information received, intercepted a bus with
number plate 4 Kha/4648 which was on its way from Toungoo to Yangon at the
toll-gate of Bago at midnight on 5 July and seized 5.516 kilos of marijuana from
passengers Kyaw Swe and Ram Gnace.
Action was taken against Kyaw Swe, 47, son of U Gram Mawkhaw
of Amegone Village in Phyu Township and Ram Gnace, 25, son of U Ramderson of
Htangone Village in Phyu Township under section 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by No 1 Bago Police Station. Bago District
court handed down 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on Kyaw Swe and 15
years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A)/21 and three years’ imprisonment under
Section 15 on Ram Gnace to serve separately on 25 April 2002.

Marijuana trafficker gets 15 years

16 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched Thant Zin at the
entrance to Nyaungpintha Village on PyinOoLwin-Lashio Road on 11 June 2001. The
authorities arrested him together with 3.592 kilos of marijuana.
Peikchinhmyaung Police Station filed Thant Zin, 30, son of U
Aung Kyaw of PyinOoLwin, under Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. PyinOoLwin District Court handed down 15 year’s
imprisonment under Section 19(A) on Thant Zin on 12 April 2002.

Drug trafficker sentenced

15 May – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and the
police force, acting on information, searched Ma San Tint of Shansu Ward,
Meihtawthalay Village, Myawady, and arrested her together with 603 stimulant
tablets on 24 October 2001. In connection with the case, Ma San Tint, 26,
daughter of U Tin Ngwe, was filed under Section 15/19 (A)/20(A)(B) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Myawady Police Station. Myawady
District Court handed down five year’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 15 year’
imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on her to serve separately on 1 March 2002.

Opium trafficker sentenced

2 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
railways police force, acting on information, inspected passenger Ma Mi Mi Nge
in compartment No 3 of No 41 Mandalay-Myitkyina Up train on arrival at Shwebo
railway station on 20 January 2002 and seized 327 grams of raw opium.
Action was taken against Ma Mi Mi Nge, 31, daughter of U Aung
Kyi of Morhan Village in Mohnyin Township under section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Shwebo police station. Shwebo District
Court handed down 10 years’ imprisonment under section 19(A) on Ma Mi Mi Nge on
22 March.
