10,000 stimulant tablets, weapons
seized in Tachilek
Yangon, 28 Oct –
A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Tachilek
Special Anti-drug Squad and local Police Force, acting on information, searched
Room-106 of Golden Triangle Hotel, Wankaung Ward, Tachileik, at 9.15 am on 7
July 2002 and arrested Yodaya citizens Sounchai Setaim, Wichaithai Satra and
Ophat Pamut and Myanmar citizen Aik Kat together with 10,000 stimulant tablets,
one pistol with three rounds of ammunition and one magazine, one video camera
and one camera and a saloon car with number plates 3Kha/8084 parked in front of
the hotel.
Tachileik Police Station filed Yodaya citizens Sounchai
Setaim, 40, son of Sounhai Setaim of 24th lane, Kyaleinkon Road, Hsam-pathawon
Township, Wichai-thai Satra, 21, son of Montalithai Satra of 15/3, Htawlathin
Road, Patonwam Township, and Ophat Pamut, 21, son of Lonwon Takonpu, 44, 76th
lane, Wanchilatan Road, Khunbankyat Ward, Pakhano Township of Yodaya, Aik Kat,
22, son of U Hsi Kyon of Panlonlan Ward, Hopang Township and Sai Nwam, 43, son
of U Paw Ka of new Weinkyauk Ward, Tachilek Township under the Sections
15/19(A)/22(B)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 24 September, Tachileik District Court sentenced Yodaya
citizens Sonchai Setaim and Ophat Pamut and Myanmar citizen Aik Kat to life
imprisonment under Sections 19 (A) and 22(B) and Yodaya citizen Wichaithai Satra
to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and life imprisonment under
Sections 19(A) and 22(B) and Sai Nwam to life imprisonment under Section
19(A)/22(B)/21.

Raw opium seized in Mongshu

16 Oct – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Taunggyi Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of
Hao Jein Shi of Hosai Village-tract, Mongshu Township, on 8 March 2002 and
altogether 18.6154 kilos of raw opium were seized.
Action was taken against Hao Jein Shi, 61, son of U Haw Li of
Hosai Village-tract, Mongshu Township, and Aik Sam, 61, son of U Kyaw Hong of
the same village under Section 15/19 (A)/ 20(A)/ 21 of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotrophic Substances Law by Lwehsaunghtauk police station. Loilem District
Court handed down 30 years’ imprisonment each under Section 19(A) on Hao Jein
Shi and Aik Sam on 15 August 2002.

Drug traffickers get prison terms

13 Oct – A combined team consisting of members of local intelligence unit and
Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched Myo Thant (a) Ta
Yoke Gyi at the corner of Pyidaungsu and Tabinshwehtee Roads in Dagon Myothit
(North) Township on 9 December last year, and seized 1,355 stimulant tablets.
Action was taken against Myo Thant (a) Ta Yoke Gyi, 32, son
of U Tun Hlaing of No (40/B), 1st Mahawthada Street, Ward-12, Dagon Myothit
(East) Township, under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Dagon Myothit (North) Police Station. Yangon East District
Court sentenced him to 21 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on 13 August
this year.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of local
intelligence unit and Taunggyi Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off,
searched the house of Shauk Yi of Kaunggate Village, Hosaing Village-tract,
Mongshu Township, on 8 March 2002, and seized 4.7355 kilos of raw opium. In
connection with the case, action was taken against Shauk Yi, 51, son of U Kyan
Aye of Kaunggate Village, Hosaing Village-tract, Mongshu Township, Myint Aung,
50, son of U San Lon, and Ar Hua, 26, son of U Kyauk Sane, under Section
15/19(A)/20(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Lwe-hsaunghtauk Police Station.
Loilem District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment each
on them under Section 19(A) on 15 August.

Drug trafficker sentenced

10 Oct – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Bago Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched cyclist Aung Myo
Khaing (a) Khaing Gyi near the southern stairway of Shwemawdaw pagoda in Bago on
21 August 2001 and seized 163.3 gms of marijuana on his bicycle. In connection
with the case, Bago police station 1 filed a case against Aung Myo Khaing (a)
Khaing Gyi, 34, son of U Mya Aung of Inwa 10th street, Bago under section 15/19
(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Bago District court
handed down 4 years’ imprisonment and 15 years’ imprisonment on him to serve
separately under section 15 and section 19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law on him on 29 August this year.

4 Oct – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Yangon
Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Saw Tha Ya
of No-501, Minbu Street, Ward-9, Hlinethaya Township, on 10-1-2002, and seized
1,970 stimulant tablets.
Action was taken against Saw Tha Ya, 30, son of U Soe Nyunt
Aung, under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law
by Thaunggyi Police Station, Hlinethaya Township. Yangon North District Court
sentenced him to 20 years under Section 19(A) on 29 August.

1 Oct – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti- drug Squad the house of U Nan La of Tawkawt Village,
Tachilek Township, on 15 May 2002 and seized 15,610 stimulant tablets and a
heroin block weighing 350 grams.
In connection with the case, Tachilek Police Station filed
Nan La, 5 2, son of U Kyaing; Daw Nan Am, 45, daughter of U Aik Saik; and Sai
Yi, 23, 800 of U Loo Sam of Lwaingan Ward. Maesai, Thailand under Section
15/19(A)21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 13 September, Tachilek District Court sentenced 25 years’
imprisonment to each of them under Section 19 (A).
