Yangon,

28 Aug – Yangon East District on 28 July sentenced Kalar Gyi (a) Htay Aung and

Soe Nyunt to 20 years imprisonment each to serve under Section 19 (A) of

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

A combined team including members

of local intelligence unit and Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, following a

tip-off, on 9 July, 2002, seized 5.916 g of heroin stashed in a compass box in

the house of Kalar Gyi (a) Htay Aung, of Banyadalla Road in Tamway Township and

arrested Kalar Gyi and Soe Nyunt.

In connection with the case,

Tamway Police Station has filed Kalar Gyi (a) Htay Aung, son of U Myint Oo, and

Soe Nyunt, son of

U Thaung, of Moekaung Pagoda Road, Yankin Township.

Drug pusher

22 Aug – Acting on information, a combined team comprising members of the local

intelligence unit, the Mandalay Anti-drug Squad and the local police station

searched Tun Shin (a) Ko Ko Oo’s house in Myothit Ward-5, Chanmya-thazi

Township, Mandalay, and discovered 8,000 stimulant tablets from the inside of

his backpack on 4 May 2003.

The Mandalay Police Station filed

a lawsuit against Tun Shin (a) Ko Ko Oo, son of U Than Maung living in Manawhary

Street in Chanmyathazi, under the Sections 15/19(A) of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Later, the case was handed over to

the Mandalay District Court, which passed a sentence of unlimited years’

imprisonment on the drug dealer under Sections 15/19(A)/23 on 11 July.

Three marijuana

dealers sentenced

21 Aug – Yamethin District Court on 3 July sentenced marijuana dealers Soe Thein

and Tin Win to five years imprisonment under Section 15 and 25 years

imprisonment under Section 15 (A) of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law to serve separately and Maung Myint to

25 years imprisonment under Section 19 (A).

Local intelligence unit on 30

July 2002 searched the two suspects near Aungchantha Village in Lewe Township

and discovered 33.475 kilos of marijuana from them. After follow-up

investigation, the authority also arrested Maung Myint, owner of marijuana, in

Hayman village.

In connection with the case

Thawutti Police Station filed Soe Thein, son of U Pu, of Bomaauk Village in

Pyinmana Township, Tin Win, son of U Tun Shwe, of Hayman Village and Maung Myint,

son of U Sein, of Village in Lewe Township according to the Law.

Marijuana

traffickers sentenced

Yangon,

14 Aug – Members of the local intelligence unit seized 3.2658 kilos of marijuana

from the house of Ma Khin Win and 3.2658 kilos of marijuana from the house of

Daw Shwe Yin in Hayman Village in Lewe Township. The unit searched their houses,

acting on information, on 30 July.

Action was taken against Ma Khin

Win, daughter of U Tun Yi of Hayman Village, and Daw Shwe Yin, daughter of U Tun

Aung of the same village, under Sections 15/19 (A) of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Thawuthti Police Station.

Yamethin District Court handed

down 20 years’ imprisonment each on them under Section 19 (A) of the law on 3

July.

Drug trafficker

sentenced

YANGON,

8 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Bhamo

Special Anti-drug Squad and Manweingyi Police Station, searched a vehicle with

number plates Tha/5710, driven by Sai Aik Phu, on its way from Namkham to

Manweingyi near Hinlon Bridge on Namkham-Bhamo Road on 12 February. The

authorities seized 432.72 grams of

raw opium from the hand bag of passenger Ma Yan Phin Bway.

In connection with the case,

action was taken against Ma Yan Phin Bway, daughter of U Yan Kyon Paung of

Mailwan Village in Kutkai Township, under Sections 15/19(A) of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Mansi Police Station.

Bhamo District Court handed down

15 years’ imprisonment on her under Section 19(A) on 18 July.

Drug possessor

4 Aug – A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit, Bahmo

Special Anti-Drug Squad and Lweje Police Station, acting on information,

searched the house of Funtion (a) Lawti (a) Lawshin at No 5 Ward, Lweje on 27

May, 2002 and seized him with two heroin blocks weighing 690 grams, 5 grams of

opium, 0.047 litres of

raw opium liquid, 2.04 grams of low grade opium and opium related equipment,

one .22 gun and nine bullets.

In connection with the case,

action was taken against Funtion (a) Lawti (a) Lawshin, son of U Law Lin at No 5

Ward, Lweje Township under Section 15/19 (a)/22 (a) of Narcotic Drug and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Lwejel Police Station.

Bhamo District Court on 17 July

handed down 22 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (a) and three years’

imprisonment under Section 19 (f) of arms law on the culprit to serve

separately.

Drug traffickers get

prison terms

2 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of

Ma Sanda Hnin located between 36th and 37th Streets and 56th and 57th Streets in

Maha Aungmyay Township, Mandalay, on 15 October last year. The team seized

0.8124 kilo of

raw opium owned by Naing Myint Tun and wife Ma Hay Mar Win who were staying

at the house.

Mandalay No (9) Police Station

opened the case and filed Ma Sanda Hnin (a) Ma Swe, daughter of U Tun Hla, Ma

Hay Mar Win, daughter of U Shwe Win of South Okkalapa Township, and Naing Myint

Tun, son of U Tin Maung, under Sections 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Mandalay District Court handed

down 12 years’ imprisonment each on Ma Hay Mar Win and Naing Myint Tun under

Section 19(A) on 1 July.
