traffickers sentenced

Yangon,
23 July – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
the Yangon Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Thein
Htay Oo (a) Thein Myint Oo in Phaya Street, Thaungyilay Ward, Hlinethaya
Township, on 21 May 2002.

The authorities discovered 42
grams of heroin kept in a soap box from the kitchen and arrested him together
with his wife Ma Hla Kyi.

The Hlinethaya Police Station
filed lawsuits against Thein Htay Oo (a) Thein Myint Oo, son of U Thein Maung of
Thawuthti Yaygyaw village, Lewe Township; and his wife Ma Hla Kyi, daughter of U
Hmon Gyi under the Sections 15/19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic

Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law. Later, the case was handed over to
the Yangon North District Court.

On 29 May 2003, the court
sentenced 25-year imprisonment on Thein Htay Oo under Section 19 (A) and 20-year
imprisonment on Ma Hla Kyi under Section 19 (A).



Drug possessor gets jail term


YANGON,
20 July – Tachilek District Court sentenced Tun Win Kyaw, son of U Hla Aung, of
No 4/64, Maikaung Ward, Tachilek, to 13 years imprisonment under Section 19 (A)
of Narcotic

Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law on 24 June.

Tachilek
special anti-drug squad members on 17 January searched him in Palyan Village in
Haunglek Village-tract, Tachilek Township, and discovered 180 stimulant tablets
from his trouser pocket.

In connection
with the case, Tachilek Police Station has taken action against him.

Drug possessor
sentenced

YANGON,
19 July – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of
Law Rel, No 55, Pahlyan Village, Ward 2, Hongleik Village-tract, Tachilek
Township on 11 March, and seized 15 stimulant tablets.

Tachilek Police Station filed him
under Section 15/16 (C) of Narcotic

Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law. Tachilek District Court sentenced Law
Rel to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and seven years’ under Section
16 (C) to serve separately on 20 June.

Drug dealers
sentenced

Yangon,
11 July – Police of Natthankwin Police Station, Kyaukdaga Township, Bago
Division on 25 May, 2002, acting on information searched suspicious motor
schooner at Chaungwa jetty and seized 4.898 kilos of marijuana inside
Polyethylene bag belonging to Saw Tha Htoo, Phar Saw Htoo and Aung Win.

In connection with the case,
action was taken against Saw Thar Htoo, son of U Saw Phone Kyut of Thitchaseik
village, Phar Saw Htoo, son of U Phar Maw of Gyokon village and Aung Win, son of
U Set Tha Na of Kyunchaung village in Kyaukgyi Township under Section
15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Penwegon Police
Station.
Bago District Court on 27 May handed down Saw Tha Htoo and Phar Saw Htoo to four
years imprisonment under the Section of 15 and 15 years imprisonment under the
Section of 19 (A) respectively and Aung Win to four years’ imprisonment under
the Section of 15.

Drug
traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 10 July – Thaton
District Court on 16 May sentenced drug dealers Hsan Maung and Kyaw Thu to 30
years imprisonment each under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.

Police of Theinzayat Police
Station in Kyeikhto Township, Mon State, on 13 December 2002 searched them near
Pyinkadogon Village in Kyeikhto Township and seized 6.5317 kilos of marijuana.

In connection with the case,
action was taken against Hsan Maung, son of U Tun Maung, and his son Kyaw Thu
under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Drug trafficker
sentenced

YANGON,
9 July – Yangon North District Court handed 20-year prison sentence on 30 May to
Daw Ein Kyaing who was arrested together with 11.36 grams of heroin at his house
in Satthadaw Village in Hmawby on 8 August, 2002.

A combined team comprising
members of local intelligence units and Bago special anti-drug squad, acting on
a tip-off, searched her house and seized the heroin.

In connection with the case,
Hmawby Township Police Station had filed Daw Ein Kyaing, daughter of U Soe Thein,
under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

YANGON,
6 July – Police members of the Toungzun Police Station, Bilin Township, Mon
State, acting on information, searched the house of Ko Naing in Kawtkadut
village and seized him with 4.6702 kilos of marijuana contained inside the
Polyethylene bag on 15 May night, 2002. Action was taken against Ko Naing (a)
Naing Naing Tun, son of U Tun Tin of Kawtkadut village, Bilin Township and his
accomplice Tin Myint, son of Maung Tun of the same village under Sections 15/16
(C)/ 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Toungzun Police
Station. Thaton District Court on 4 April handed down Ko Naing (a) Naing Naing
Tun to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 25 years’ imprisonment
under Section 19 (A) to serve separately and Tin Myint to 25 years’ under
Section 19 (A).

Drug dealers
jailed

YANGON,
2 July – The members of Dagon Myothit (South) Township police station, acting on
a tip-off, searched the house of Zaw Wan of No 528 on Thitsar Street, Ward 21,
Dagon Myothit (South), on 17 October last year. And the authorities seized 45.6
grams of marijuana and arrested Ma Khin Htar who was on a visit at the house.

Concerning the case, the police
station took action against Zaw Wan, 28, son of U Sein Kyee, and Ma Khin Htar,
24, daughter of U Htein Lin, of Hlinethaya Township, under Section 15/19 (A)/21
of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances Law.

The Yangon East District Court
heard the case and sentenced Zaw Wan to five years’ imprisonment under Section
15 and 20 years under Section 19 (A) to serve separately and Ma Khin Htar to 20
years under Section 19(A).
