Yangon,
30 June – Members of Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad searched the house of Hla
Myint of Malar Myaing Street in Pauktaw Ward in Insein Township on 3 March 2002
and found 0.5442 grams of marijuana there. Further investigation led to seizure
of 8.328 kilos of marijuana in the house of U Hla Kyi of Kantha-2 Street in
Kanna Alae Ward in the township.

Insein Police Station filed Hla
Myint, son of U Toe Nyein, of No 298, Malar Myaing Street in Pauktaw Ward,
Insein Township, under Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law, and U Hla Kyi, son of U Ohn, of Kantha-2 Street in Insein
Township under Section 15/19 (A)/21. Yangon North District Court handed down 10
years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C), five years’ imprisonment under Section
15 and 25 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on Hla Myint to serve
separately, and 25 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on U Hla Kyi.

Drugs dealers
sentenced

YANGON, 28 June – A combined team
comprising members Local Intelligence Unit and Mandalay Special Anti-Drug Squad,
acting on information, searched the house of Win Aung Thein at No 89-Nya near
Yesitkan, Anattaw Ward, Aung Myay Thazan Township, Mandalay on May 18 and seized
drug addict Sai Myint Aung with 29,800 stimulant tablets, 4.1 liter of Phensedyl,
1.4675 kilos of dried opium, 1.01 kilos of low grade opium and 0.4 liter of
opium liquid.

In connection with the case,
action was taken against Win Aung Thein, son of U Chin Peik and Sai Myint Aung,
son of U Yin Sa of Mongyin village, Nanmatu under the Sections 15/16(C)/19(A)/21
of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Mandalay No 1 Police
Station. Mandalay District Court on 26 May handed down Win Aung Thein to 18
years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) and Sai Myint Aung to six years’
imprisonment under section 16 (C).

Heroin
trafficker sentenced

YANGON,
25 June – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Bhamo Special Anti-drug Squad searched Law Kyan (a) Kyan Lon in the outskirt of
Panywet Village in Bhamo Township on 25 July last year and arrested him together
with 57.14 gram of heroin.

Bhamo Police Station filed Law
Kyan (a) Kyan Lon, son of U Kyan Kyin Yon of Sikyarhaw Village, Tamoenye
Village-tract, Kutkai Township, under Sections 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psy-chotropic Substances Law. Bhamo District Court handed down 20 years’
imprison-ment on him under Section 19 (A) on 5 May.

Drug trafficker
gets jail terms

Yangon,
23 June – Members of Phyu Railway Police Force on 16 February night searched No
2 down train at Phyu Station and seized 0.4899 gram of marijuana from Darakyan
on board.

In connection with the case, Phyu
Police Station filed a lawsuit against Darakyan, son of U Onparakap, of Sargon
Village, Thadukan Village-tract, Phyu Township, under Section 15/19 (A) of the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Toungoo District Court on 6 March
sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment under section 15 and 15 years’ under
section 19 (A) to serve separately.

Drug possessor
sentenced

YANGON,
22 June – A combined team including members of the local intelligence unit and
Bhamo Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 16 January, searched the house
of Laukchont of Ward-2 in Manweingyi Village in Mansi Township and seized him
together with five grams of heroin. In connection with the case, Mansi Police
Station filed a lawsuit against Laukchont, son of U Laukboung, under section
15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Bhamo District Court on 22 May
sentenced him to 10 years’ imprisonment under section 19/(A) and five years’
under section 15 separately.

Drug
traffickers sentenced

Yangon,
19 June – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Bhamo
Special Anti-drug Squad, and local police force, on 19 June 2002, searched the
two suspects Thant Win Sein and Kyan Yin Htant near 7th mile Village in Momeik
Township and seized 2.46 kilos of raw opium. The two suspects confessed that
owners were Nay Win and Nyi Nyi of Kandaw Ward, Bhamo. In connection with the
case, action was taken against Thant Win Sein, son of U Hla Moe, of Mawhan
Village, Mohnyin Township, Kyan Yin Htant, son of U Aik Tun, of Phankhargon
Village, Bhamo, Nay Win, son of U Ohn Maung and Nyi Nyi, son of U Laurant, of
Tontwa Village, Mabein Township, under Sections 15/19 (A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law by Momauk Police Station. On 21 May, Bhamo
District Court sentenced each of them to 20 years’ imprisonment under the law.

12 June – Tachilek District Court on 26 March handed down five years’
imprisonment under section 15 and 16 years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) of
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law to serve separately on Ma
Nann Khant, daughter of U Lon San of Tachilek. The special anti-drug squad
members, on 25 December 2002, discovered 900 stimulant tablets concealed in a
plastic bag and buried at her home of Wanlon village, Haungleik village-tract in
Tachilek. In connection with the case, action was taken against her by Tachilek
Police station.

Yangon,
11 June – Tachilek District Court on 5 March sentenced Biyami, who has been
arrested together with stimulant tablets by the special anti-drug squad in
Tachilek early November, 2002, to five years imprisonment under Section 15 and
25 years imprisonment under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law to serve separately. On 10 November, 2002, Tachilek Special
Anti-drug Squad members, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Biyami, son
of U Aik Mar Lain, of Maikaung Ward in Tachilek Township and seized 28,600
stimulant tablets hidden under the cupboard. In connection with the case,
Tachilek Police Station filed him under the law.

Marijuana
grower sentenced

Yangon,
8 June – A combined team comprising members of Magway Special Anti-Drug Squad
and Pauk Police Station, acting on information, searched in the compound of No
943 of Kyaw Win Maung’s house on Aung Thukha Street, Aung Chantha Ward, Pauk
Township on 19-8-2002 and seized 103 marijuana plants weighing 96.95 grams
planted near the gutter.

Action was taken against Kyaw Win
Maung (a) Maung Gyi, 41, son of U Ba Nyein under Section 15/16 (A) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Pauk Police Station. The Pauk Township
Court on 20-3-2003 sentenced him to 5 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 7
years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (A) separately.

sentenced

YANGON,
7 June – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Tachilek
Special Anti-Drug Squad and Tachilek Police Force, acting on information,
searched the house of Sai Hsam, of Weinkyauk Village, Hongleik Village-tract,
Tachilek Township on 17 September 2002, and arrested Aik Thaung who was at the
house together with 1,800 stimulant tablets.

Action was taken against Sai Hsam,
36, son of U Lon Hsam, of Weinkyauk Village, Tachilek Township and Aik Thaung,
39, son of U Aik-up, of Tawkawt Village, Tachilek Township under Section 15/19
(A) by Tachilek Police Station.

Sai Hsam was sentenced to five
years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and Aik Thaung to 20 years’ imprisonment
under Section 19 (A) by Tachilek District Court on 3 March 2003.

Stimulant
tablets possessors jailed

YANGON,
5 June – Members of Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad searched the betal shop of
Thet Tun Aung at the corner of 72nd Street and Yuzana Street in Myothit Ward-1,
Chanmyathazi Township, on 14 September last year and seized 14 stimulant tablets
from Thet Tun Aung and Ko Cho (a) Cho Gyi.

Mandalay No (11) Police Station
filed Thet Tun Aung, son of U Khin Myint of Myothit Ward-1, Mandalay, and Ko Cho
(a) Cho Gyi, son of U Hnin Maung of new Yebaw Ward, Pyigyidagun Township,
Mandalay, under Sections 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law. Chanmyathazi Township Court handed down four years’ imprisonment on them
under Section 15 and six years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C) to serve
separately on 18 April this year.
