Drug
traffickers receive prison terms

YANGON,
10 June — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, the
local battalion and Mongpan Police Station stopped a trawler jeep on suspicion
in front of Mongpan Police Station on 28 April 2003 and seized 10.369 kilos of
opium from a passenger.

In connection with the case,
Mongpan Police Station filed a lawsuit against Ma Ohn Yi, daughter of U Ohn Kyaw
of Mongpan town, under Sections 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. Later, the case was handed over to Loilem District Court, which
passed a sentence of 30 years’ imprisonment on her under Section 19 (A) on 3
February 2004.

Likewise, a combined team
comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Yangon Special Anti-drug
Squad and South Okkalapa Police Station, acting on information, searched the
house of Maung Myint (a) Aung Myint in Minye Kyawzwa Street-3, Ward 7, South
Okkalapa Township, on 27 January 2003. The personnel concerned found there
489.8799 grams of marijuana. South Okkalapa Police Station filed a lawsuit
against Maung Myint (a) Aung Myint, son of U Win, under Sections 15/19 (A) of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Later, the case was handed over
to Subdistrict Court, which sentenced 20 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 19 (A) on 23 February 2004.


Drug
traffickers sentenced

YANGON,
7 June — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago
Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, on 3 Augest 2003, searched Htin
Lin Aung medicine shop of Win Min in Yone Kyi Ward in Bago and arrested him
together with 8 bottles of comethazine each containing 100 ml and 582 tablets of
diazepam. Further information led to the search of the house of Win Min in
Pyaytawaye (3) street in the same ward and arrested him together with 50 bottles
of comethazine each containing 100 ml.

Bago Police Station filed a
lawsuit against Win Min, son of U Ba Khin in Yone Kyi Ward in Bago under
Sections 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Bago
District Court handed down 11 years’ imprisonment on Win Min under Section 19
(A) of the law and 3 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 to serve separately on
26 February 2004.

Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek Special Anti-Drug
Squad searched Soe Win on the Pedauk street in PoneTun ward in Tachilek and
arrested him with 140 stimulant tablets with WY brand in his pocket on 31
December 2003. Tachilek Police Station filed a lawsuit against Soe Win, son of U
Ohn in Yarmyaykon in Macahokhan ward in Tachilek under Sections 15/19 (A) of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. He was sentenced to 13 years’
imprisonment by Tachilek District Court under Section 19 (A) of the law on 17
March 2004.


Drug
traffickers sentenced

YANGON,
5 June— A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, on 12 November 2003,
searched the house of Ar Sein of No 2/31 in Hsansai Ward (B), Tachilek and
arrested him together with 5,600 WY brand stimulant tablets. The Tachilek Police
Station filed a lawsuit against Ar Sein, son of U Aik Lwan of No 2/31 of Hsansai
Ward (B) in Tachilek under Sections 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. He was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment by Tachilek District
Court under Section 19 (A) on 6 February 2004.

Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit, Bago Special Anti-Drug Squad and
Bago Police Station searched Daw Mya Kyi and Ma San Aye on the bus with number
plate 4B/4648 at Polan check-point in Bago on 31 July 2003 and seized 3.2 kilos
of marijuana. Action was taken against Daw Mya Kyi, daughter of U Aung Thet and
Ma San Aye, daughter of U Win Maung at Mwedaw village in Kyaukkyi Township under
Sections 15/19(A) /21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Bago
District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on Daw Mya Kyi under Section
19(A) of the law and 5 years’ imprisonment and 20 years’ imprisonment to serve
separately on Ma San Aye under Section 15 and Section 19 (A) of the law on 19
February 2004.
