Yodaya citizen
seized with stimulants in Tachilek
Yangon,
30 March — Members of local intelligence unit, Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad,
Bureau of Special Investigation and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information,
searched Yodaya citizen Sophon, 43, son of Naing Pay Yun (Yodaya/ Buddhist), who
was walking near friendly Bridge in Sansai Ward, Tachilek, on 27 March morning.
The combined force seized him 950
stimulant pills.
As drugs are the common enemy of
the entire human beings, Myanmar, assuming drugs elimination task as a national
duty, is making efforts for Tachilek District in Shan State (East) to be a
drug-free zone. Drugs prevention and elimination tasks have been carried out
with added momentum. So, Yodaya citizen Sophon was seized with stimulant pills.
Police station concerned has
filed the drug trafficker under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Ephedrine
powder seized in Singaing
Yangon,
29 March – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit,
Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad and local police force, acting on information,
searched the house of U Zar Ket Hle of Daukgyikwe Village in Singaing Township
on 19 March and seized 70 kilos of ephedrine powder.
Action is being taken against U
Zar Ket Hle, 50, son of U Lar Yan Thin Hmon, under Section 15/16 (B) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the Singaing police station.

Heroin seized
in Mandalay
Yangon,
28 March — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the passengers who got off
from No 132 Lashio-Mandalay down-train at Myohoung Railway Station in Mandalay
on 12 March and seized 60 soap-boxes of heroin weighing 0.92 kilos from Ma Kyan
Shauk Si, daughter of U Kyan Hte of Region-17, Ward-5 in Lashio, and Daw Mar Htu,
daughter of U Fu Win Han.
On 14 March, members of the local
intelligence unit, acting on information, lay in wait in front of the detached
houses in Zeyathiri Street, Pyigyipyawbwe (West) Ward, Chanayethazan Township,
Mandalay, and arrested Ma Htet, daughter of U Sein of Yaysin Corner,
Kyunlonokshaung Ward, Chanmyathazi Township, Mandalay, Amar Kyi, daughter of U
Maung of 42nd Street, between 78th and 79th Streets, Beetan Ward in Maha
Aungmyay Township, and Daw Tin May (a) Daw Gwet Htaw, daughter of U Htein of
89th street, Pyigyipyawbwe (West) Ward, Chanayethazan Township, together with 30
soap-boxes of heroin weighing 348.64 gm.
Action is being taken against
them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the police stations
concerned.

81 grams of
Marijuana seized
25 March – Toungoo District Court on 24 February sentenced U Hla Aung, 54, to
three years’ imprisonment under section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.
A combined team comprising
members of local intelligence unit and Natthangwin Police Station on 24 December
2002 searched his house in Tagundaing Village in Kyaukgyi Township and seized 81
grams of marijuana hidden in a granary. In connection with the case, Natthangwin
Police Station filed him under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Stimulant tablets seized in
Myawady
Yangon,
12 March – Members of the local intelligence unit, acting on information about
the trafficking of stimulant tablets under the friendship bridge in Myawady,
arrested Aung Than Naing, son of U Hla Shwe of No 15, Myitta road, Ward-5 in
Hline Township, and Kyaw Kyaw, son of U Kyaw Win of Strand Road, Nawin Ward in
Pyay together with 60,000 stimulant tablets on 3 March.
Further investigation led to the seizure of
another 947,800 stimulant tablets in two plastic containers hidden underground
at map reference (O-275210) on the bank (Myanmar side) of the Thaungyin river. A
total of 1,007,800 stimulant tablets were seized in the case. Action is being
taken against them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the
police station concerned.

Raw Opium seized in Indaw
Yangon, 9 March — A
combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Katha
Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 23 February searched Ma Kyi’s
house in Aungmingala ward, Indaw. The authorities arrested Thaung Htay together
with 4.156 kilos of raw opium in Ma Kyi’s house. Action is being taken against
Thaung Htay, 46, son of U Chit Pe of Aungmingala ward in Indaw under the Se-ctions
15/19(A) and 20(A)21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Indaw Police Station.

Raw Opium seized in Mansi
Yangon,
7 March — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Bhamo Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 8 February 2003,
searched Law Yu Kyon’s house at Panse village in Mansi and seized 2 bags of raw
opium weighing 3 kilos.
Action is being taken against Law Yu Kyon, son
of U Law Kyon Hon under Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Lwege Police Station.

Marijuana seized in Thazi
Yangon,
5 March — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit,
Mandalay Special Anti-drug Squad and Railway Police Force, acting on
information, searched No 142 up-train at Thazi Railway Station on 6 February and
seized 4 packets of marijuana weighing 5.88 kilograms from passenger Tin Aye.
Action is being taken against Tin Aye, 47, son
of U Chit Myaing of No 208, Ward-3 in Kalaw and his accomplice fugitive Ma Nan
Shwe Oo of Hmawby under section 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Thazi Railway Police Station.

Raw opium seized in Muse
Yangon,
2 March — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Muse Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 12 February searched a
Super Cub motor-cycle ridden by Honyintone on Tamoenye-Monese road and seized
3.2 kilos of raw opium in the front-basket of the bike. The authorities went on
searching vehicles and passengers and arrested Shi San on the motorcycle
together with 5 kilos of raw opium at about 2 pm. Action is being taken against
them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Tamoenye Police
Station.
