News & Views : Senior General Than Shwe Addresses Myanmar War Veterans Organization Conference Senior General Than Shwe Addresses Myanmar War Veterans Organization Conference Jun 25, 2001 Patron of the Myanmar War Veterans Organization ( Central ) Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Than Shwe delivered an address at the Myanmar War Veterans Organization Conference 2001 in Yangon on 5 June morning . Following are salient points from the address: – Due to the unity and the sense of comradeship among war veterans there is love and the will to safeguard each other with a sacrificing spirit. – As truly experienced soldiers it is fully believed that war veterans will be able to materialize the aims of the MWVO with firm resolution. – Because of the strong bonds between the War Veterans and the Tatmadaw, MWVO members have always taken pride in their military service though retired from the Armed Forces for various reasons. – Today’s MWVO is a body formed with Tatmadawmen who have loving kindness and attachment to War Veterans and the War Veterans themselves who always take pride in their service. – Courses have been conducted to reinforce the War Veterans with new strength. – The basic system of the divide-and-rule policy was to offer false incentives. – The Tatmadawmen realizing and giving respect to the loyalty of the fallen soldiers, sacrificed much life and limb for the National Causes. – The Tatmadaw is a defence organization that will always be strong. – It is necessary for war veterans who live among the people to prepare for defence of the State together with them.
