1,600 kilos of Ephedrine
powder seized in Mandalay
Yangon, 21 June-A combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit and Special Anti-Drug Squad,
acting on information, searched the godown of U Lichi Yon of No La 1/53, Chanmya
Thayar Ward, Pyigyitagon Township, Mandalay Division and seized 1,600 kilos
(about six tons) of ephedrine powder on 7 June 2001. The authorities arrested Ah
Way (a) Maung Ye, of No 152, North Ward, Muse; U Lichi Yon, of No 125/1,
(between 32th street and 33rd street) and (between 72th street and 73rd street),
Yanmyonlon Ward, Chanaye- thazan Ward, Mandalay; Khin Maung Aye, of Block No
131, 19th Street (between 88th Street and 89th Street), Aungmyaythazan Township,
Mandalay; Kyaw Thein, of 15th Street (between 86th Street and 87th Street),
Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay and Pyay Thein, of 15th Street (between 86th
Street and 87th Street) in connection with the seizure of the drugs. Further
information led to the arrest of Khin Maung Aye (a) Musa of No 80, Kanbawza
Street, Bahan Township, Yangon on 13 June. Action was taken against the five in
accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances laws.
