Formation of the Work Comminee for the Development of Border Areas and National Races

With the expansion of the areas covered by the development project for border areas and national races and its ensuing broadening and growing load of duties, it became necessary to implement this development task more effectively and expeditiously. Consequently, a Work

Committee for the Development of Border Areas and National Races was formed on 3 May 1989

under the Chairmanship of Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, Secretary I of the State Peace and Development Council

comprising of Ministers, Deputy Ministers and heads of Department as its members. The Work Committee was

re-instituted with 49 members on 11 February 1998. Under the Work Committee, 18 Sub-Committees were also

formed and assigned with responsibilities for development in their own respective sectors.
