team comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Katha Anti-drug Squad

and Railways Police Force, searched Mandalay-Myitkyina No 55 Up-train and

arrested Sai Aung Htoo (a) Win Myint, 40, of Myetpa Ward, Mandalay together with

18 sachets of raw opium weighing 25.472 kilos kept in his rucksack at 11.30 pm

on 13-2-2000 He was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by Katha District Court

under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on

29-6-2000.

Secretary-1 inspects

construction of Drug Abuse Control Museum

 

YANGON, 29 July – Secretary-l of

the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than and Minister for Health Maj-Gen Ket Sein,

arrived at construction site of Drug Abuse Control Museum at the corner of

Hanthawady Road and Kyundaw Street in Kamayut Township at 1.30 pm today.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party were welcomed there by Chairman of

Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin

Hlaing and members,the deputy ministers, the director-general of Myanmar Police

Force  directors-general of departments under the Ministry of Home Affairs

and officials.

At the briefing hall, Minister Col Tin Hlaing reported to the Secretary-l on

progress of construction work and tasks to be undertaken Director-General of MPF

Police Maj-Gen Soe Win on work done for greening of the environs of the museum,

Managing Director of FMI City U Soe Myint on preparations for grass, flower and

soil and U Myint Thein of Yuzana Construction Group on construction of the

museum. Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended to their needs.

Then, Secretary- I Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected construction of the

archway of the museum and left there.

Drug traffickers get

imprisonment

YANGON, 27 July – A combined

team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Kengtung Anti-drug Squad,

Customs Department and local Police Force searched a Toyota Hilux with a number

plate 3 Kha/8260, which was driven by Shauk Chon together with conductor Kyaw

Kyaw Oo and leaving Kengtung for Tachilek at the check point of No 244 LIR on 18

March 2000, and seized 213 packets containing 509,200 stimulant tablets.

A case was opened against driver Shauk Chon, 31, son of U Lay Wu, of Ward 8,

Lashio, and conductor Kyaw Kyaw Oo, 21, son of U Tun Khin, of 36th Street

(Between 71st and 72nd Streets), Mandalay, under Section 15/19 (A)/21 of

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Law by Kengtung Police Station.

Kengtung District Court sentenced life imprisonment on Shauk Chon under

Section 19 (A) and 30 years’ imprisonment on Kyaw Kyaw Oo under Section 19

(A)/21 of Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on 28 June 2000.

Anti-Narcotic Drugs Course for JAT,SAT teachers in States and Divisions opened

YANGON, 26 July – A ceremony to

open short-term Anti-Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Course for

teachers of Basic Education Middle and High Schools in States and Divisions of

lower Myanmar, sponsored by Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control, Work

Committee for Educating Youth and Myanmar Anti-Narcotic Drug. Association (Head

Office), was held at Yankin Education College this morning.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of CCDAC Minister for Home Affairs Col

Tin Hlaing, Chairman of WHEY Deputy Minister for Education Brig-Gen Soe Win

Maung, officials of CCDAC and Yankin Township Peace and Development Council MANA

(Head Office) and Yankin Anti-Narcotic Association, guests, teachers and 100

trainees.

Brig-Gen Soe Win Maung made an opening address on the occasion. Then,

Chairman of MANA (Head Office) Dr Nay Win made extented greetings. After the

ceremony, Col Tin Hlaing cordially conversed with the trainees. After attending

the 16 day course, the trainees will manage multiplier courses at their schools.

Drug trafficker gets

imprisonment

YANGON, 25 July – A combined

team including members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek Anti drug Squad.

acting on information, searched the house of Aung Khin, 49, son of U Shaung

Te, of No 31, Pein Kyauk Village, Haung Lek Village-tract, Tachilek Township, on

4 March 2000, and seized 160,000 stimulant tablets bearing “WY” ‘

words, spare parts of stimulant making machine, arms and ammunition. He was

filed under Section 15/16(b) 20 (A)/22 (b) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law by Tachilek Police Station. Tachilek District Court passed three

years imprisonment on him under Section 15, and 20 years’ imprisonment under

Section 19 (A) to serve separately on 26 June 2000.

277 drug-related cases

exposed in June

YANGON, 21 July – A total of 277

drug cases were exposed by the Tatmadaw, the Myanmar Police Force and the

Customs Department in June. The authorities seized 121.5079 kilos of opium in 19

cases, 1.2133 kilos of heroin in 80 cases, 6.4521 kilos of opium oil in three

cases, 13.2385 kilos of low opium in 11 cases, 96.7535 kilos of marijuana in 57

cases, 10,344,441 stimulant tablets in 43 cases, 33.634 kilos of Ephedrine in

two cases, 014 kilos of stimulant power and 395.186 kilos of phenyl acetic acid

in one case, 5,528.25 liters of spirit in one case, 2.61 kilos of  chemical

powder in one case, 54 cases of failure to register and other five cases. Action

has been taken against 397 persons-326 men and 71 women involved in 277 cases

during the period.

Yangon Division will

become drug free region after end of 15 year narcotic drug eradication plan

YANGON, 17 July – A meeting was held at

Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Office this afternoon to

coordinate measures for implementing the first five-year project of the 15year

narcotic drug eradication plan in Yangon Division.

Duties were also assigned to personnel concerned at the meeting. Member of

the State Peace and Development Council Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and

Development Council Commander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than

delivered an address.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than said efforts should be made to combat

narcotic drugs from all sectors in implementing the drug eradication project as

a national tasks; and to develop the socio-economic life of the national people

of the border ales and to end poppy cultivation in the areas. Tactics are being

laid down to end drug production, eradication and abuse.

Yangon Division will become a drug-free region after implementing the

15yearnarcotic drug eradication plan. In implementing the plan, short-term

five-years projects are being laid down in taking educative, treatment,

rehabilitation and control measures. Efforts should be made in cooperation with

the departments concerned in eradicating drugs area-wise in towns and districts.

Commander Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than assigned drug eradication duties to Chairman

of Yangon East District Council Lt-Col Aung Pyi, Chairman of Yangon West

District Peace and Development Council Lt-Col Maung Maung Shein, Chairman of

Yangon South District Peace and Development Council Lt Col Maung Maung Sein and

Chairman of Yangon North District Peace and Development Council Lt Col San Matu.

Secretary of Yangon Division Committee for Drug Abuse Control Dr Ba Thaung

explained the tasks of the first five-year project of the 15-year narcotic drug

eradication plan in Yangon Division. Participants also took part in the

discussions.

YANGON, 14 July – Chairman of

Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin

Hlaing met President of Myanmar Anti-Narcotics Association U Nay Win and party

at his office at 2 pm today.

He gave instructions to them on extension of Anti-Narcotics Association and

future tasks.

Also present at the call were Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura

Myint Maung, Director-General of Myanmar Police Force Police Maj-Gen Soe Win,

Traffickers get prison terms

YANGON, 13 July – Acting on a

tip-off, a combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and

Myanmar Police Force, while waiting at the customs office, Nawnghkio, Shan State

searched a car with number plate 6Ka/ 9844 and arrested Lauk Ae, son of U Le Ar

Shan of Laukkai, Lu Lauk Te, 45, of Ward 8, Lashio and Aung Win, 30, of Ward 1,

Lashio together with Five million of stimulant tablets at 10 pm on 22 July 1998.

Action was taken against them in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Court handed down fifteen years, imprisonment under Section

19(A) and 21 and sentenced to death under Section(A) on Lauk Ae and Aung Win and

fifteen years’ imprisonment under Section19(A) and 21 on Lu Lauk Te on 17 March

1999.

get 10 and 15 years

YANGON, 12 July – Members of

Yangon Division Anti-drug Squad searched one suspect Kyaw Thu Naing, 31, son of

U Chit San No 206, Ngwelayaung Street, Saya San (South) Ward of Bahan Township

on 24 January 1999.

The authorities arrested him together with 2.7 gram of heroin. On 5 May 2000,

he was tried under Section 15/16 (C)/20 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment under 16 (C) by Yangon

West District Court. similarly, member of Mongyai Police Force, acting on

information searched a car (No Pa/6670 ) driven from Lashio to Mongshu on 4

December 1999. The authorities arrested Htaungsoneshi (a) Kyaw Naing, 24, son of

U Saung Yanhtaung Naungrnon Village in Lashio Township together with 19,880

stimulant t tablets. On 9 June 2000, he was tried under Section 19 ( A)

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances Law and sentenced to 15 years

imprisonment by Lashio Township Court.

YANGON, 11 July – Members of

Anti-drug Squad (Yangon Division) searched suspect Bo Bo, 21, of 14th Street

Yanpyay Ward, Thakayta Township at Dhamayon Street Dawbon Township at 2.55 am on

3 October 1999 and found 3.1 grams of marijuana on him Action was taken against

him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Dawbon

Township Court handed down five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and seven

years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on him to serve separately on 12 May

2000.

Similarly, members of Tachilek Township Anti-drug Squad, acting on

information, searched the house of Ma Aye Aye Myint, 33, of Pone Tun Ward,

Tachilek Township at 5.30 pm on 20 November i998 and found 8.2 grams of heroin

in a box in the ceiling. Action was taken against her in accord with Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Sub-stances Law. The Tachilek District Court handed down

ten years and six months’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on her on 27

April1999.

YANGON, 10 July – Members of

Special Anti drug Squad (Yangon Division) searched suspect Tun Tun Oo, 32, of

Moe mahka Street, Mont-taung Ward, Sangyoung Township, at Myaungmya Street in

Sangyoung, Township, at 7.30 pm on I May 1999 and found 0.0521 kilo of marijuana

on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Yangon West District Court handed down twenty-five years’

imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on him on 3 May 2000.

Similarly, members of Tachilek Township Special Anti-drug Squad acting on

information, raided the house of Ma Nan In, 49, of Ponthon Ward, Tachilek

Township, on 8 October 1999 and found 560 stimulant tablets on her. Action was

taken against her in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Tachilek District Court handed down eleven years’ imprisonment under Section

19 (A) on her on 27 April 2000.

YANGON, 9 July –

The Dawbon Township Court handed down a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment on

an illicit drug possessor on 12 May 2000.

Acting on information, members of Yangon Division Anti-Drug Squad, at 2.35 pm on

3 October 1999,

searched a suspect Ya Thein, 38, son of U Maung Maung, of Nawaret Koethwe

Street, Ward 56, Dagon Myothit (South), on Dhamayon Street, Dawbon, and seized

0.0092 gram of marijuana in his possession.

He was tried under Section 16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

Law and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment.Likewise, the Mogok Township

Court handed down a sentence of five and seven years’ imprisonment on a drug

user and possessor to serve separately on 6 June 2000.

Members of Mogok Township MPF, at 4.35 pm on 30 March 2000, searched Am San (a)

Kyaw Lwin, son of U Yan Chein Chwum, of Hohmine Ward, Mogok, in the street, and

seized 0.0000275 gram of heroin on him.

He was tried under Section 15/16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law and sentenced to five and seven years’ imprisonment to serve

separately.

YANGON, 8 July – The North

Okkalapa Court handed down a sentence of 7 years’ imprisonment on an illicit

drug possessor on 1 July, 2000.

Acting on information, members of Yangon Division Anti-Drug Squad, at 5.30 pm

on S June, 1999, searched one suspect Ye Lay (a) Rahin, 40, son of U Ha Than, of

262, Thida Lane, Ward 8, Thakayta Township, and seized 16.3 gms of marijuana on

him.

He was tried under Section 16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. Likewise, the

Mandalay Division Court handed down a sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment on a

drug trafficker on 6 June, 2000.

Members of Mandalay Division Special Anti-Drug Squad acting on information,

searched the house of Ma Toe Toe, 32, daughter of U Aung Tin, of Eastern Than-lyet-hmaw

Block 430. Maha Aung Mye Township, Mandalay Division, and seized 49 gms of

heroin in her possession.

She was tried under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law and sentenced to IS years’ imprisonment.

YANGON, 7 July – Members of

Yangon Division Anti drug Squad searched one suspect Win Naing, 26, son of U Tin

Ohn, No 197, Zawtika Street, Ward 4 of Thingangyun Township, at the Bus-stop of

Phonegyi Street in North Okkalapa Township, on 1 September 1999. The authorities

arrested him together with 1.02 grams of marijuana. On 1 June 2000, he was tried

under Section 16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law  and

sentenced to 7 years imprisonment by North Okkalapa Township Court. Similarly,

members of Lashio Township Anti-drug Squad searched one suspect San Htaik, 30,

son of U Maung Maung, of Ward 7, Lashio Township on the road on 13 January 1999.

The authorities arrested him together with 0.0001 kilo of heroin. On 26 March

1999, he was tried under Section 15 of Narcotic Law and sentenced to 3 years’

imprisonment and under Section 16 ( C) of the law and sentenced to 5 years’

imprisonment to serve concurrently by Lashio Township Court.

International Day

Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed

YANGON, 6 July – A ceremony to

mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at

City Hall, Lashio, Shan State (North) at 8.30 am on   5June.

Chairman of Shan State (North) Peace and Development Council Commander of

North-East Command Maj-Gen Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo chaired and delivered a

speech on the occasion. The message of the Chairman of Central Committee for

Drug Abuse Control was read out by Joint-Commander of the State Police Col Thein

Han. Outstanding policemen and staff who took part in Drug Abuse Cases and

winners of essay, poem, cartoon, song and short play competitions were

awarded. A similar ceremony was held at Aung Myat Hall of Tachilek Township,

Shan State (East) at 9 am the same day.

Similar ceremony was held at City Hall, Loikaw Township, Kayah State at 10 am

on 26 June, attended by Chairman of Kayah State Peace and Development Council

Col Nyunt Hlaing.

Commander of State Police Force Police Col Kyaw Myint read out the message of

Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing and Assistant Law Officer of the State

U Tun Aung and Physician Dr Min Han lectured on the danger of drugs. Then Prize

winning students were awarded and the ceremony came to an end at 11.30 am.

Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

YANGON, 5 July – A ceremony to

present prizes to winner in News Photo Contest in commemoration of International

Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held at the Tatmadaw

Convention Centre this evening.

Present on the occasion were Chairman of Central Committee for Drug Abuse

Control Minister for Home Affairs Col Tin Hlaing, Minister at the Prime

Minister’s Office Brig-Gen Lun Maung, deputy ministers, senior military

officers, CCDAC Secretary Myanmar Police Force Director-General Police Maj-Gen

Soe Win, departmental heads and officials and prize winners.

Minister Co Tin Hlaing presented  the first prize for display to the

booth of Ministry of Progress of Border Areas and National Races and Development

Affairs, the second prize to the booth of public education and the third prize

to the booth on international relations and fight against drugs.

Minister Brig-Gen Lun Maung also presented special prizes to those of the

booths on cultivation of poppy substitute crops, livestock breeding and

treatment, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Brig-Gen Thura Myint Maung to

rehabilitation booth, organization booth and Ministry of Construction booth

and Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Brig-Gen Khin Maung to

those for the photos on booths of Myanmar Anti Narcotics Association and CCDAC.

YANGON, 5 July – Members of Anti

drug Squad (Yangon Division) searched suspect Aung Kyaw, 41, of Kyundaw Street,

Kyundaw Ward at Wakema Street, Sangyoung Township on 6 February 2000 and found

9.148 grams of marijuana on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Yangon West District Court handed down ten years’

imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on him on 26 May 2000.

Similarly, members of Namhkam Township Police Force, acting on information,

searched the,house of Sai Tun, 30, of Naunghkan Ward, Namhkam Township on 6

December 1998 and found 0.0025 kg of heroin. Action was taken against him

according to law. The Namhkan Township Court handed down three years’

imprisonment under Section 16 and five yeas’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C)

on 3 February 1999 on him to serve concurrently.

Bahan Township in the General Hospital compound at 1.10 pm on S June 1999 and

found 0.0030 kg of marijuana on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Yangon West District Court handed down ten years’

imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on 31 May 2000 on him.

Similarly, members of Lashio Township Police Force, acting on information,

raided the house of Aik Yee 30, of Ward 8, Khattar Street, Lashio Township at 4

pm on 30 December 1998 and found 0.00018 kg of heroin.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Lashio Township Court handed down three years’ imprisonment

under Section 15 and five years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on 25 March

1999 on him to serve concurrently.

Oo, 29, of Ward 7, Thakayta Township, at the corner of Pansodan Street and

Strand Road, Kyauktada Township, at 1.15 pm on 12 January 1999 and found 0.272

grams of heroin on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law.

The Yangon West District Court handed down ten years’ imprisonment under

Section 16 (C) on her on 26 May 2000.

Similarly, members of Tachilek Township Police Force, acting on information,

searched the house of Sai Win, 31, of Tachilek Township at 5.50 pm on 10 April

1998 and found 1,755 stimulant tablets in his cupboard.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Tachilek District Court handed down eleven years’

imprisonment under Section 19 (A) on 11 March 1999 on him.

Anti-drug’ Squad Yangon Division searched suspect Ma Khin San Nwe, 11, of

Htamalon Village, Letyetsan Ward, Thanlyin Township at Hanthawaddy Bus-stop at

noon on 17 February 1999 and found 0.578 grames of heroin on her.

Action was taken against her in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The Yangon West District ‘Court handed down ten years’

imprisonment on her under ,section 16 (C) on 25 May 2000. Similarly, members of

yinOoLwin Township Police Force searched Khin Maung Latt (a) Barlu, 33, of

Padetha Myothit, PyinOoLwin Township at the market at 5.45 pm on 19 April 1998

and found 0.0002 kg of heroin on him.

Action was taken against him in accord with Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. The PyinOoLwin Township Court handed down three years’

imprisonment under Section 15andfive years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (C) on

! 2 March 1999 on him to serve separately.

YANGON, 1 July – The Dawbon

Township Court handed down a sentence of imprisonment on an illicit drug

possessor on 12 May 2000.

M,embers of Yangon Division Anti-drug Squad stopped and searched one suspect

San Lwin, 31, son of U Soe Myint, of No 53, Toeche Lane 1, Ward 3, Thakayta

Township, at 12.3S pm on 3 October 1999 and found 0.0122 kilo of marijuana on

him. He was tried under section 16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law and- sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. Similarly, the

Tachilek Township Court passed a sentence of imprisonment on a drug trafficker

on 9 March 1999.

Acting on information, members of Tachilek Township Police Force, at noon S

March 1998, searched the house of Tin Aye Kyaw, 22, son of U Thein Han, of

Wammaing Block 15, Ponehtun Ward, Tachilik Township, and found 0.0W7S kilo of

heroin and 189 stimulant tablets in his possession. He was tried under Section

19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law and sentenced to 10

years’ imprisonment.

YANGON 1 July -Yangon Division

Special Anti-drug Squad, searched suspect Lin Lin Htaik (a) Lin Lin, 20, son of

U Hla Kyaing, No 28 (Second Floor), 23rd Street, Ward 7, Latha Township, on

Sin-O-Dan Street, the same township, on 19 February 1999. The authorities

arrested him along with 0.34 gram of heroin in his possession. He was tried

under Section 15/16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by

Yangon West District Court and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment under

Section 15 and to ten years’ imprisonment under Section 16 (CC) to serve

separately on 24 May 2000.

Likewise, member of Namhkham Township Police Force, acting on information,

searched a vehicle driven by La Yun, 28, son of U Yaw Naw, Panlon Village,

Namhkam Township, on 29 November 1999.

The authorities arrested him together with o.d5wos kg of heroin in his

possession. He was tried under Section 15/16 (C) of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Nankhan Township Court and sentenced to three

years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and to five years’ imprisonment under

Section 16(C) to serve concurrently.
