Yangon, 1 Sept –
A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Railway Police
Force, acting on information, seized Ba Kyaw with 71.5 grams of heroin on No 4/5
platform at Mandalay Station at 1:35 pm on 20 March 2002. In connection with the
case, action was taken against Ba Kyaw, 34, son of U Aung Tha of Nant Nying
Village, Bamauk Township under Section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Mandalay Railway Police Station. Mandalay
District Court handed down 12 years’ imprisonment on him on 3 June 2002 under
Section 19 (A).

31 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Taungyi Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched Shwe Sin
Restarant in region-4, Monghsu, and nabbed Win Aung and Aik Palait together with
950 stimulant pills on 22 January 2002. In connection with the case,
Loihsanunghtauk Police Station opened the case against Win Aung, 26, son of U
Yan Tar of Konmyintha, Region-4, Monghsu Township, and Aik Palait, 22, son of U
Aik Hkwet of Mongmao Office Ward, Region-5, under section 15/19 (A) /21 of
Narcotic Drugs and P)sychotropic Substances Law. Loilem District Court handed
down five year’s imprisonment each on them under section 15 and 15 year’s each
under section 19 (A) to serve separately on 30 May 2002.

30 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Railway Police Force, acting on a tip-off, searched the upper class of No 55 up
train in Mandalay Station and arrested passenger Ma Htu Ra with 735 grams of raw
opium.
Action was taken against Ma Htu Ra, 33, daughter of U Gam Mon
of Kyauk Kyam village of Nawnghkir Township under Section 15/19 (A) of the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The Mandalay District Court
handed down 12 years’ imprisonment on her under Section 19 (A). Similarly, a
combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Taunggyi Special
Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, stopped and searched DT motorbike and
seized 816.5 grams of opium and 16.33 grams of khatkhu.
Action was taken against Kya Shin (a) Kyar Shin, 32, son of U
Arm Kyi of region-2 Lwe Saung Htauk, Monghsu Township under Section 15/19 (A) of
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. On 17 June 2002, the Loilem
District Court sentenced 17 years’ imprisonment on him under Section 19 (A).

Drug traffickers get prison

Yangon, 29 Aug –
A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Yangon Special
Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Zaw Naing Oo (a) Gadon’s house
at Thumingalar-4 Street, Ward-19, Hlinethaya Township and seized 2.938 kilos of
marijuana on 6 March 2002. In connection with the case, Hlinethaya Police
Station opened the case against Zaw Naing Oo (a) Gadon, 30, son of U Thaung
Myint under Section 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law. Yangon North District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 19 (A). Similarly, a combined team comprising members of local
intelligence unit and Hpa-an Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off,
searched Anaing’s house in Ward-2, Myawady and seized 90.018 grams of marijuana.
Action was taken against Anaing, 20, son of U Daung Nyo under Section
15/19(A)/20(A)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. Myawady
District Court sentenced 5 years’ imprisonment on him under Section 15, and 15
years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve separately on 14 June.

Drug traffickers sentenced
Yangon, 28 Aug – A combined team
comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Magway Special Anti-Drug
Squad, acting on information, searched bicyclist Maung Khaing on Minbu-Sagu Road
in Minbu on 3 November 2001, and seized 653 grams of marijuana from his basket
and 82 grams of marijuana were also seized from his house after his confession.
Action was taken against Maung
Khaing (a) Khaing Lwin, 27, son of U Hla of No 2, Kyauktada Ward, Minbu, and his
accomplices Tun Min Aung (a) Nyi Su, 28, son of U Tun Phyu of Minbu, and Chit
Wan, 22, son of U Bi of Naung Village, Ngape Township, under Section 15/19(A)
/20(A)/ 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Minbu Police
Station. Minbu District Court handed down five year’s imprisonment each under
Section 15 and 15 year’s imprisonment each under Section 19(A)/21 on Maung
Khaing (a) Khaing Lwin and Tun Min Aung (a) Nyi Su to serve separately, and five
years’ imprisonment under Section 15 on Chit Wan, on 18 June 2002.

Drug possessor gets 20 years

26 Aug – A combined team including members of local intelligence unit and local
police force, acting on information, searched Aung Lin Tun at Thiri Mingala
Market in Kyimyindine Township and seized 653.17 grams of marijuana together
with him on 19 July 2001. In connection with the case, Kyimyindine Police
Station opened the case against him, 38, son of U Win Thein of Badonma Street,
Ward-16, Phyapon, under section 15/19(A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. Yangon West District Court sentenced 20 years
imprisonment to him under section 19(A)/21 on 27 June 2002.

25 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Lin
Kyi (a) Jala, No 618, Moe Sanda-1 Street, Ward-26, Dagon Myothit (South)
Township and seized 163.29 grams of marijuana on 13 November 2001. In connection
with the case, Dagon Myothit (South) Township Police Station opened the case
against Lin Kyi, 23, son of U Sein Lay, under section 15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Then, Yangon East District Court sentenced him to 20 year’s
imprisonment under section 19 (A) on 24 June 2002. Likewise, on 22 March 2002 a
combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Muse Special
Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Ma Jee (a) Maywal,
Manhaing Village, Muse Township and seized eight grams of heroin and 150
stimulant tablets. In connection with the case, Action was taken against her,
24, daughter of U Marittan, under section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Muse Police Station. On 28 June 2002 Muse
District Court handed down 20 year’s imprisonment on her under section 19 (A).

Marijuana possessors jailed

24 Aug – The Yangon North District Court handed down a prison term to a man for
illegal possession of marijuana on 19 June this year. A combined team comprising
members of the local intelligence unit and Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad,
acting on information, searched the house of Zaw Naing Oo (a) Gadon of
Thumingalar 4th Street, Ward 19, Hlinethaya Township, and seized 2.938 kilos of
marijuana on 6 March 2002.
The Hlinethaya Police Station filed Zaw Naing Oo, 30, son of
U Thaung Myint, under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law. The Yangon North District Court heard the case and sentenced him
to 20 years in prison under Section 19 (A). A similar team, acting on tip off,
stopped and searched Maung Khaing who was on his bicycle near timber shop on
Minbu-Saku Street in Minbu and seized 653 grams of marijuana at 7.30 pm on 3
November 2001. Further investigation led to the seizure of 82 grams of marijuana
near his house.
In connection with the seizures, action was taken against
Maung Khaing (a) Khaing Lwin, 27, son of U Hla of No 2, Kyauktada Ward, Minbu,
and his accomplices Tun Min Aung (a) Nyi Su, 28, son of U Tun Phyu of Kargyikwin,
the same township, and Chit Wun, 22, son of U Bi of Naung Village, Ngaphe
Township, under Section 15/19 (A)/ 20 (A)/ 21. The Minbu District Court handed
down five years’ imprisonment each under Section 15 and 15 years each on Maung
Khaing (a) Khaing Lwin and Tun Min Aung (a) Nyi Su to serve separately and five
years’ imprisonment on Chit Wun under Section 15.

Drug traffickers sentenced

23 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago
Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, intercepted a Bayintnaung
passenger vehicle with number plates 4 Kha/6279 enroute from Toungoo to Yangon
near the Toll Gate in Bago on 17 February this year.
The authorities seized 3.3 kilos of marijuana from passenger
Ma San Kyi. Action was taken against Ma San Kyi, 29, daughter of U Tin Aung of
Aungthukha Ward, Kyaukkyi, under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by the Bago No 1 police station. Bago District Court
handed down 15 years’ imprisonment on her under section 19 (A) on 31 July.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched Ma Thwe Thwe Thin
in Pazundaung Township on 24 September 2001, and seized 85 stimulant tablets.
Action was taken against Ma Thwe Thwe Thin, 25, daughter of U Mya Han of Room
310, Building 8, Lakekan Street, Ward 7, Pazundaung Township, under Section
15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Pazundaung Police
Station. Yangon East District sentenced her to 20 years’ imprisonment under
Section 19(A) on 29 July.

Drug trafficker gets life imprisonment

22 Aug – The Hpa-an District Court handed down life imprisonment on a drug
trafficker on 23 July this year. The combined team made up of members of the
local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, stopped
and searched a Nissan truck with the number plates No 4Kha/1690 at the Thanlwin
river bridge (Hpa-an) and seized 6.85 million stimulant tablets on 13 October
2001. The Hpa-an Police Station opened a case against Kyaw Lin Aung (a) Lee Hsin
Lin (a) Ar Lin, 25, son of U Lauk Lu of No 219, Ward 3, Kutkai, under Section
15/19(A)(B) / 20 (A)(B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law. The
Hpa-an District Court heard the case and sentenced him to life imprisonment
under Section 19(A).

21 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Yangon Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, searched Ma May Chaw Su Mon’s
house, room No 707, apartment-5, Pazundaung Housing, Ward-7, Pazundaung
Township, and seized 189 stimulant tablets on 24 September 2001. In connection
with the case, Pazundaung Police Station opened the case against her, 23,
daughter of U Myat Thu under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. On 29 July 2002 Yangon East District Court handed
down 20 years’ imprisonment on her under section 19 (A).

Drug traffickers get 18 years

16 Aug – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Tun Tun Oo and
Thaung Shein, who were sitting on grass beside the golf course road in Tachilek,
and seized 3,800 stimulant tablets from them on 12 February 2002. Action was
taken against Tun Tun Oo, 25, son of U Tun Myint Oo of Macaokhan Ward, Tachilek
Township, and Thaung Shein, 33, son of U Aung Tha, under section 15/19 (A)/21 of
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by the Tachilek police station.
Tachilek District Court handed down three years’ imprisonment each on them under
section 15, and 15 years’ imprisonment each under section 19 (A) on 1 July. The
sentences were to be served separately.
