Drug traffickers sentenced

Yangon, 24 Nov –

A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Yangon Special

Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Daw Pu (a) Daw Tin Tin Htwe

near No-127 bus line gate in Ward 19, Hlinethaya Township, on 10 February this

year, and seized 1.63 kilos of marijuana.

Action was taken against Daw Pu (a) Daw Tin Tin Htwe, 47,

daughter of U Maung Thet of No 1496, Aung Ze Ya Street, Ward 19, Hlinethaya

Township, under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances

Law by Hlinethaya Police Station.

Yangon North District Court sentenced her to 5 years’

imprisonment under Section 15 and 18 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to

serve separately on 11 October. Similarly, a combined team comprising members of

local intelligence unit and Tachilek special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a

tip-off, searched Aik Kyauk near Meiyan Village in Tachilek Township on 8 August

2002.

The authorities seized 800 stimulant tablets from his bag.

Action was taken against Aik Kyauk, 42, son of U Ann Shan of Meiyan Village,

Phanmin Village-tract, Tachilek Township, under Section 15/19(A) of Narcotic

Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law by the Tachilek police station.

Tachilek District Court handed down five years’ imprisonment

on him under Section 15 and 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve

separately on 30 October.

A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligent Unit and Local Police

Force, acting on information, searched Ma Nyunt Ye, Ma Nyunt Nyunt Aye and Daw

Than Myint who were in front of Kha Ye Phu Tea Shop, Kutoth Ward, Mingalar

Toungnyunt Township and seized them with 367.41 grams of marijuana on 17

February, 2002.

Action was taken against Ma Nyunt Ye and Ma Nyunt Nyunt Aye ,

daughters of U Tin Aung of No 12, 148th Street , Maugon Ward, Tamway Township

and Daw Than Myit, daughter of U Ka Lar of Latha Aye Village, Inntakaw Township

under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by

Mingalar Taungnyunt Police Station.

On 23 September, Yangon East District Court handed down 20

years’ imprisonment on them. Similarly, a combined team comprising members of

Local Intelligence Unit and Local Police Force, acting on information, searched

the house of Kyaw Ze Ya of No 96, 11th Street, No 7 Ward, Bogalay Township and

arrested him together with 37.51 grams of marijuana on 18 July 2002.

Action was taken against Kyaw Ze Ya, 39, son of U Tha under

Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Bogalay

Police Station. Pyapon Police Station sentenced him to 15 years’ in prison under

Section 19 (A) on 24 October.

Drug traffickers get prison terms

Yangon, 15 Nov –

A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek

Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, ransacked the houses of Aik Lon

and Aik Kham, of No 2/40, 2nd Mekong Street in Tachilek on 14 May 2002 and

seized 162,000 stimulant tablets and arms and ammunition.

Action was taken against Aik Lon, 36, son of U Aik Saung, Aik

Kham, 23, son of U Aik Hsa, of Hopan Hoyet Village, Mongphon tract, Tachilek,

Aik Pin, 38, son of U Lon Yi, of No 2/35, 2nd Mekong Street, Tachilek under

Section 15/19 (A)/21/22 (B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by

Tachilek Police Station.

Aik Lon and Aik Kham were sentenced to life im-prisonment

under Section 19 (A) and Aik Pin to 30 years’ imprisonment under Section

19(A)/21 by Tachilek District Court on 3 September 2002. Likewise, a combined

team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek Special

Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Nan La, of Tawkawt

Atwin Village in Tachilek on 15 May 2002 and 15,610 stimulant tablets and one

block of heroin weighing 350 grams were seized.

Action was taken against Nan La, 52, son of U Kyaing, Daw Nan

Aham, 45, daughter of U Aik Saik, and Sai Yi, 23, son of U Aik Kyan, of No 384,

Loingan Ward, Maesai, Thailand under Section 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Tachilek Police Station. Nan La, Daw Nan Aham and

Sai Yi were sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment each under Section 19(A) by

Tachilek District Court on 13 September 2002.

Drug dealers sentenced

Yangon, 11 Nov –

A combined team comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Hpa-an Special

Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched Ma Ngu Wah Thein near Kyaikthok

old cemetery in Mayangon Ward, Mawlamyine, and seized 39 stimulant tablets on 21

January 2002.

Action was taken against Ma Ngu Wah Thein, daughter of U Saw

Du Du at Taung Yo Tan Street, Mayangon Ward in Mawlamyine, under Section 15/19

(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Myoma Police

Station. The Mawlamyine District Court handed down 15 years’ imprisonment on her

under Section 19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on 10

September.

Similarly, a combined team comprising members of Local

Intelligence Unit and Hpa-an Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information,

searched Warm Hpa Restaurant in Taitara village, Thahton Township and arrested

Win Shwe, Toe Toe Ngal and Aung Toe together with 40 stimulant tablets in 24

January. Thudammawadi Police Station filed Toe Toe Ngal, son of U Aye Tin and

Aung Toe, son of U Aung Maung of Tin Hlaing Ward, and Win Shwe, son of U Maung

Than of Shwe Chaung Street, Theingon Ward under Section 15/19 (A)/21 of the

Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Thahton District Court handed down 15 years’ imprisonment

on Toe Toe Ngal under Section 19 (A) and 13 years’ imprisonment each on Aung Toe

and Win Shwe under Section 19 (A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law on 16 September 2002.

combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and local police

force, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Than Lwin (a) Jet of No 14/Ka

on Nighawta road, Pathein, on 22 April and seized 34.01 grams of marijuana.

Athegyi Police Station in Pathein filed Than Lwin (a) Jet,

35, son of U Than Sein, under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law.

On 30 September, Pathein District Court handed down 14 Years’

imprisonment on him under 19/(A).

Similarly, on 21 May morning, a combined team comprising

members of local intelligence unit and local police force, acting on

information, searched the house of Aung Hsan Win (a) Aung Hsan of No 113/Ka,

Sabai-2 Street, Yamonna-2 Ward, Dawbon Township, and discovered 81.65 grams of

marijuana from his leather bag.

Dawbon Police Station filed Aung Hsan Win (a) Aung Hsan, 37,

son of U Kyaw Thein, under 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. Yangon East District Court sentenced him to 21 years’ in prison

under 19/(A) on 30 September.

Two drug traffickers get prison terms

angon, 1 Nov –

Taunggyi District Court sentenced a woman drug trafficker to 16 years

imprisonment on 13 September.

The woman, Ma Shwe Sein, daughter of U Hsu Wunna, was caught

together with 510 stimulant pills at her house in South Lay-ein-gon Ward, Region

2, Hopong at noon on 12 June 2002 when members of regional intelligence unit and

Taunggyi special anti-drug squad made a search at her house. Hopong Police

Station filed a law suit against her under Narcotic Drugs and Psychostropic

Substances Law.

In another drug case, a man was sentenced to 20 years

imprisonment by Yangon North District Court on 19 September.

Members of regional intelligence unit and Yangon special

anti-drug squad acting on information arrested the man, Maung Thein (a) Lin Yon,

together with 7.344 grams of heroin in Ward 3, Latha Township, at 8 pm on

4-7-2001. Latha Police Station filed a law suit against Maung Thein, son of U

Thein Chit, of 424, Strand Road, Ward 3, Latha, under Narcotic Drugs and

Psychostropic Substances Law.
