27 April — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Zaw Min Oo near

Ponegyi Street No 1 jetty in Seikkan Township on 12 September and seized him

together with 2.04 grams of heroin and 180 stimulant pills from his bag.

In connection with the case,

Seikkan Township Police Station filed a lawsuit against Zaw Min Oo (a) Ko Khaing

(a) Min Kyaing (a) Tin Maung Than (a) Naing Naing Tar, 20, son of U Bo of No 26

Yankin Street in Lashio under section 15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law.

Yangon West District Court

sentenced him to 23 years in prison under section 19(A) on 20 March 2003.

18 April – The Tachilek District Court meted out punishment to a woman for

illicitly possessing narcotic drug. She was sentenced to five years and 16 years

on two counts on 26 March this year.

The combined team made up of

local intelligence unit and Tachilek Anti-drug Squad, acting on information,

searched the house of Ma Nan Kham of Hsehsa Street, Haungleik Village-tract,

Tachilek Township, on 25 December 2002 and seized 900 stimulant tablets.

Tachilek Police Station took action against Ma Nan Kham, 36, daughter of U Lon

Hsam under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Tachilek District Court then

heard the case and sentenced her to 5 years under Section 15 and 16 years under

Section 19 (A) to serve separately.

12 April — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and

Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 10 December searched

the house of U Kook Shan in Howlek village-tract, Tachilek Township and seized

130 stimulant tablets.

Action was taken against U Kook

Shan, 51, son of U Pu In under Section 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Tachilek Police Station.

The Tachilek District Court on 26

March handed down on him 5 years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 13 years’

under Section 19(A) to serve separately.

7 April— A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago

anti drug squad on 25 May 2002 searched a parcel at 13-mile Village on Thandaung

Township sent from Kyaw Kyaw in Lashio and discovered 97 stimulant tablets

bearing WY letters.

On follow-up investigation, No 1

Police Station, Toungoo, arrested Saw Kyaw Naing (a) Kyaw Kyaw, 28, son of U Daw

Nae of Daw Uku Ward, Lashio, Saw Al Htoo, 20, son of U Saw Alfred of Loikaw and

Salai Lin Aung (a) Pho Kwa, 29, son of U Hla Soe of Naung Ya (A) Ward, Loikaw,

and filed them under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. Toungoo District Court on 6 March sentenced them to 15 years’

imprisonment each.

6 April – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Kalay Anti drug squad, acting on a tip-off, on 12 September 2002 searched the

house of Balar Lonpar, 20, son of U Kwa Hlan, and his wife Ma Mar Lah Hti Ya,

23, daughter of U Teyalima, of Tahan Region-8, Kalay Township, and seized 12.54

grams of heroin.

In connection with the case,

Kalay Police Station filed them under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

Law. On 4 March 2003, Kalay District Court sentenced Balar Lonpar to four years’

imprisonment under section 15 and Ma Mar Lah Hti Ya to 12 years’ imprisonment

under section 19 (A)/21.

Ywahtaung Railways Police Force, acting on information, on 11 September 2002,

searched Ma Aye Aye Than and Ma San Ye on board of No-41 Mandalay-Myitkyina up-

train at Shwebo station and seized 4.899 kilos of raw opium in a plastic basket.

Action was taken against Ma Aye

Aye Than, 30, daughter of U Man Sint of Ward 3, Thazi, Ma San Ye, 33, daughter

of U Ba Thein of Ywathit Village in Indawgyi village-tract, Mohnyin Township and

two accomplices Maung Maung Sein, 34, son of U Maung Maung of Phayangasu

Village, Thazi Township and Than Kyaw, 31, son of U Tun Aung of Ward-2, Myabaung

Village, Namti Township by Shwebo Police Station under Sections

15/16(C)/19(A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Shwebo District Court on 3

March handed down  25 years’ imprisonment each on Ma Aye Aye Than and Ma San Ye

under Section 19(A) and 5 years’ and 25 years’ on Than Kyaw under Sections 15

and 19 (A) to serve separately and 25 years’ on Maung Maung Sein under Section

19 (A)21.

Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad and Tatmadaw men, acting on information, on 9

October 2002 searched Arfar in Loitaughtkham village-tract, Tachilek and seized

16 stimulant tablets bearing “WY”.

Action was taken against Arfar,

40, son of U Arsu of Sanluout Village, Loitaughtkham village-tract, Tachilek

Township under Section 15/16(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law by Tachilek Police Station. The Tachilek District Court on 5

March handed down 5 years’ imprisonment and 6 years’ imprisonment on Arfar under

Sections 15 and 16(C) to serve separately.

3 April — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit,

Tachilek Anti-Drug Squad and Tachilek Police Station, acting on information,

searched the house of Arwudee in Tachilek on 24 September 2002.

The authorities found Law San

there and seized 47 stimulant tablets in orange colour bearing ‘WY’ letters, 200

millilitres of phensedyl, two arms, one magazine, and 17 rounds of ammunition in

his bedroom.

In connection with the case, the

Tachilek Police Station filed Law San, 21, son of U Li Ta Chan of Tachilek

Township under Sections 15/19(A)/21/22(B) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law. After handing over the case to Tachilek District Court, the

court sentenced him 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(A).
