YANGON,

28 Dec-A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Yangon

Special Anti-Drug Squad and Mingaladon Police Force, acting on a tip-off, on 4

January 2003 searched Maung Su (a) Ahnyatha (a) Mya Win on Aungmingalar Street

in Kyusanmyoma, Mingalardon Township and arrested him together with 102.0561

grams of marijuana hidden under his shirt. Action was taken against Maung Su,

son of U Nyo Yin, of Kyusankwetthit Village, Mingaladon Township under Section

15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law. He was sentenced to

20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and 5 years’ imprisonment under

Section 15 to serve separately by Yangon North District Court on 19 November.

Likewise, a combined team

comprising members of local intelligence unit, Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad

and the District Police Force, acting on information, on 1 February 2003

searched Ma Myint Myint Kyi, on 120th Street, Yedwingon Ward, Mingalar

Taungnyunt Township and arrested her together with 1,260 stimulant tablets

hidden in her handbag.Action was taken against Ma Myint Myint Kyi (a) Shanabi,

daughter of U Soe Myint, of No 52, 54th Street, Ward 2, Pazundaung Township

under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law. Ma Myint

Myint Kyi (a) Shanabi was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19

(A) by Yangon East District Court on 11 November.

Drug trafficker

22 Dec – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and

Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, on 17 June 2003 searched

the house of Johny Aye on Mandalay Street, Kannauk Ward, Mingalar Taungnyunt

Township, and arrested him together with 277.61 grams of dry opium hidden in the

house.

Action was taken against Johny

Aye (a) Than Tun Aye, son of U Maung Aye, of No 107, Mandalay Street, Kannauk

Ward, Mingalar Taungnyunt Township under Section 19 (a) of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law by Mingalar Taungnyunt Police Station.

Johny Aye (a) Than Tun Aye was

sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) by Yangon East District

Court on 3 November 2003.

Drug dealers

20 Dec – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago

Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Zaw Myint

of No 12/4, Thirimingalar Street, Kalayani Ward, Bago, on 18 April 2003 and

arrested him together with one kilo of marijuana packed in a polythene bag in

the compound of the house.

In connection with the case, Bago

No 1 Police Station filed a lawsuit against Zaw Myint, son of U Ngwe Khaing,

under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

And Bago District Court sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment under section 19

(A) on 26 November.

Similarly, a combined team

comprising members of local intelligence unit and Tachilek Special Anti-drug

Squad, acting on a tip-off, searched the house of Daw Nam Am of Wanlon Village,

Houngleik Village-tract, Tachilek Township, on 29 July 2003 and arrested her

along with 2,000 stimulant pills bearing WY letters under a bed in the house.

In connection with the case,

Tachilek Police Station opened a case against Daw Nam Am, daughter of U Aik Shel,

under section 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

And Tachilek District Court sentenced her to 17 years’ imprisonment under

section 19 (A) on 6 November.

Drug possessors

18 Dec- Acting on information, members of Mingaladon Township Police Force,

while waiting on the road in Thingangyungyi Village in Mingaladon Township, saw

suspect Zaw Aung on 8 March 2003. The MPF members searched him and seized 1.4696

kilos of marijuana hidden in the bush.

Mingaladon Police Force took

action against Zaw Aung, son of U Tin Maung of Thingangyungyi Village in

Mingaladon Township, under section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law.

On 15 October, Yangon North

District Court sentenced Zaw Aung to 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(A).

Similarly, a combined team

comprising members of the local battalion, the local intelligence unit and Kalay

Special Anti-Drug Squad, seized 2.2862 kilos of raw opium from Ngun Lyan Gram

and Laro Pyong who were drugs traffickers, near Ingyinkhon Village, Kalay

Township, on 16 June.

Kalay Police Station took action

against Ngun Lyan Gram, son of U Noh Khwel of Letpanchaung Village, Kalay

Township and Laro Pyong, son of U Khin Che Oh under Section 15, 16 (C), 19(A)

and 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

On 24 October, Kalay District Court sentenced Ngun Lyan Gram to 20 years’ under

Section 19(A) and Laro Pyong to five years’ under Section 15 and 15 years’ under

Section 19(A).

17 Dec – The combined team made up of members of local intelligence unit,

Mandalay Special Anti- drug squad and Meiktila Police Station 1, acting on a

tip-off, searched the house of Ma Khin Moe of Kantha Aye village, Meiktila

Township, and seized 14 grams of dried poppy, four grams of marijuana and 163.2

grams of raw opium on 21 October 2002.

Regarding the seizures, the

authorities took action against Ma Khin Moe, daughter of U Thaung Sein, of

Kantha Aye village under Section 15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic Drugs and

Psychotropic Substances Law.

The Meiktila District Court

(branch) heard the case and sentenced her to 20 years’ imprisonment under

Section 19 (A) and 20 years’ under Section 20 (A), to run concurrently.

Drug pushers

12 Dec – A combined team comprising members of Pyu Police Station of Bago

Division and the Bureau of Special Investigation, acting on information,

searched the house of Tun Tun (a) Yu Nut in north Zaiganai, Bago, on 3 February.

The authorities discovered 355 stimulant tablets in the kitchen of the house.

They also found Ma Ar May (a) Xilian Jein there and arrested both of them.

In connection with the case, the

No 3 Police Station of Bago filed lawsuits against Tun Tun, son of U San Mya of

north Zaiganai in Bago, and Ma Ar May, daughter of U Xi Wan Ai of Ward 12,

Lashio, under Sections 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

Law. The case was later handed over to the Bago District Court, which sentenced

15 years’ imprisonment on Tun Tun under Section 19(A) and 17 years’ imprisonment

on Ma Ar May under Section 19(A) on 29 October.

8 Dec – In carrying out local security, officials concerned of Natthankwin

village, Kyaukkyi Township, Bago Division searched suspects Hamit (a) Tin Win

and Khin Soe on 22 February, 2003 and seized them with 3.429 kilos of marijuana

inside their plastic bags.

In connection with the case,

action was taken against Hamit (a) Tin Win, son of U Chit Maung of No 328, No 3

Ward, Pazundaung, Yangon and Khin Soe, son of U Aung Ngwe of Yele village,

Kyaukkyi Township under Section 15/19(a)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic

Substances Law by Natthankwin Police Station.

Toungoo District Court on 2

September handed down on Hamit (a) Tin Win and Khin Soe to 20 years’

imprisonment each respectively under Section 19 (a).

Similarly, a combined team

comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Phaungpyin Police Station,

acting on information, searched the house of Hla Htoo on 12 December in Ywatha

village, Phaungpyin Township and seized him with 0.1796 kilo of raw opium. In

connection with the case, action was taken against Hla Htoo, son of U Thaung

Nyunt of Ywatha village, Phaungpyin Township under Section 15/19(a) of Narcotic

Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Phaungpyin Police Station.

Mawlaik District Court on 18

September handed down on Hla Htoo to 25 years’ imprisonment under Section 19

(a).
