Drugs dealers sentenced
Yangon,
22 Feb — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and local
police force, acting on information, searched the house of Myo Myint of Kyauk
Taung Street, Pone Htun Ward, Tachilek Township at 11.05 am on 15 November, 2002
and seized Myo Myint and Ar Mu together with 170 stimulant tablets.
In connection with the case,
action was taken against Myo Myint, 30, son of U Sein Thwin and Ar Mu, 55, son
of U Law Me of Arsay village, Wunkaung village-tract, Tachilek Township under
Section 15/19(a)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Tachilek Police Station. Tachilek District Court on 3 February handed down Myo
Myint to 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(a) and Ar Mu to 15 years’
imprisonment under Section 19(a) and 5 years’ imprisonment under Section 15
separately.

Raw
opium, stimulant tablets seized in Kalaw, Monghsu
Yangon, 20 Feb — A combined team
comprising members of the local intelligence unit and Myanmar Police Force,
acting on information, searched a passenger bus with the number plates 5 Kha/6669
on 1 August 2002. The authorities seized three bags of raw opium weighing 12.24
kilos from the passenger Ohn Shein.
Action was taken against Ohn Shein, 41, son of U San Nyein of Region-2
Nyaungphyu Sakkhan Ward in Taunggyi under Section 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law by Kalaw Police Station.
The Taunggyi District Court handed down 30 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 19 (A) on 20 January.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Taunggyi Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on a tip-off, stopped and searched a
DT motorcycle on 11 April 2002 and seized 800 stimulant tablets and 34.6 g of
heroin from Aik Htat riding on it.
Action is being taken against Aik Htat, 20, son of U Khin Kon of Region-5 of Lwe
Hsaung Htauk in Monghsu under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Lwe Hsaung Htauk Police Station concerned.
The Loilem District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 15/19(A) on 16 January.

Drug dealers sentenced

16 Feb — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 12 August 2002
searched a Toyota Mark II saloon with the number plates NW/ 0273 driven by
Kyalaw at Haung Lake check point. The authorities seized 4 bags of raw opium
weighing 2 kilos.
Action was taken against Kyalaw, 20, son of U Kyataw of Wanlon village, Tachilek
Township under Sections 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Tachilek Police Station.
The Tachilek District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 19 (A) on 2 January.
Similarly, a combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 23 September 2002
searched Arkar at Wampon Kyunpinseik in Tachilek Township and seized 150 grams
of raw opium.
Action was taken against Arkar, 41, son of U Bayson of Honar village, Tachilek
Township under Sections 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Wampon Police Station.
The Tachilek District Court handed down 5 years’ imprisonment on him under
Section 15 and 11 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve separately
on 24 January.

Marijuana trafficker sentenced

13 Feb — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Myanmar Police Force, acting on information, searched the house of Than Myint
(a) Aar Yin of No (211), Shwe Wa Tun Street, (104) Ward, Dagon Myothit (South)
Township, on 26 April 2002, and seized 494.93 grams of marijuana.
Dagon Myothit (South) Police
Station filed against Than Myint (a) Aar Yin, 33, son of U Than Tun, under
Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Yangon East District Court handed
down 20 years’ imprisonment on him under Section 19 (A) on 30 December.

Drug traffickers
sentenced
Yangon,
9 Feb — A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-Drug Squad, on 1 September 2002 seized 360 stimulants
tablets from Lodo, 24, son of U Aerjay, at Lwesaton village of Haunglek
Village-tract in Tachilek Township. Tachilek Police Station filed him under
Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 24 December, Tachilek District
Court sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 15 years
imprisonment under Section 19 (A) separately.
Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of Yangon Anti-Drug Squad and local intelligence unit, acting
on a tip-off, searched the house of That Naing Win (a) Kar Del of No 30, 4th
floor, 121st Street, Ye Dwin Gon Ward, Mingala Taungnyunt Township on 29 June
and discovered 191 stimulants tablets.
In connection with the case,
Mingala Taungnyunt Police Station filed him under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 12 January 2002, Yangon East
District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on him under Section 19 (A).

Drug possessor jailed
Yangon, 4 Feb — A
combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Magway Special
Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information on 31 May 2002, searched Htay Myint in
Hnone Village, Chaungzon Village-tract, Myaing Township, and seized him together
with 9.6 litres of phensedyl put in 96 bottles.
In connection with the case, Bahin Police
Station filed a law suit against Htay Myint, 34, son of U Tin Maung of Khapat
Village, Tamu, Sagaing Division, under section 15/19(A)220(A) of Narcotic Drugs
and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Pakokku District Court sentenced him to 15
years in prison under section 19 (A) on 31 December 2002.

Drug dealers seized in Yangon
Yangon,
2 Feb — A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched Room No 804 of
the December Hotel in Dagon Township and seized Ma Aye Aye Mon (a) Ma San with
2,800 stimulant tablets in her handbag on 22 December 2001.
In connection with the case,
action was taken against Ma Aye Aye Mon (a) Ma San, 45, daughter of U Tin Maung
of No 618, 13th Street, No 9 Ward, South Okkalapa Township under Section
15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 27 December 2002, the Yangon
West District Court handed down 5 years’ imprisonment on her under Section 15
and 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(a) separately.
