29 May – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit,
Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad and local Myanmar Police Force, acting on
information, searched the house of Daw Yin Yin Hla of Hsupyi Yadana 3rd street
in Ward 56, Dagon Myothit (South) Township on 18 July 2002 and seized 183.69 gm
of opium.
Action was taken against Daw Yin
Yin Hla, 43, daughter of U San Yi, under Section 19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Dagon Myothit (South) Police Station. Yangon
District Deputy District Court handed down 20 years’ imprisonment on Daw Yin Yin
Hla under Section 19 (A) of the law on 24 April this year.

23 May – Members of Kengtung Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information,
searched the house of Aik Khe in Sutpwe Village, YankhaVillage-tract in Kengtung
Township, on 26 August 2002 and seized 1,800 stimulant tablets bearing WY
letters from his pocket.
Action was taken against Aik Khe,
27, son of U En Shen under sections 15/19(A)/20(A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Kengtung Police Station. Kengtung District Court
handed down 20 years’ and 5 years’ imprisonment on him to serve separately under
sections 19 (A) and 15.

22 May – Members of Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad stopped and searched a
motorcycle of Aik Pyin in Khetta lane in upper Hsansai Ward, Tachilek, on
2-12-2002 and seized 2,000 stimulant tablets from him.
Action was taken against
Aik Pyin, 18, son of U Aik Leik of No 57, Sabai Street in upper Hsansai Ward,
Tachilek under sections 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law by Tachilek Police Station. Tachilek District Court handed down 20 years’
imprisonment on Aik Pyin under section 19(A) of the law on 18-2-2003.

Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, on 18 June 2002 searched
Ma Ye Ye Tin’s house of No 189, Tharaphe Street, Ward 41 in North Dagon Myothit
Township.
The authorities seized 610
stimulant tablets bearing WY.
Action was taken against Ma Ye Ye
Tin, 37, daughter of U Kyaw Myint, under Sections 15/19 (A) of the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by North Dagon Myothit Township Police
Force.
The East District Court handed
down 20 years’ imprisonment on Ma Ye Ye Tin under Section 19(A) of the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law on 10 March 2003.

13 May – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit, Tachilek
Anti-Drug Squad and local police force, acting on information, on 10 November
2002, searched the house of Biyami of Megaung in Tachilek and seized him
together with 28,600 stimulant tablets from the bedroom on the upper floor.
In connection with the case
Tachilek Police Station filed a lawsuit against Biyami, 49, son of U Aik Marlein
under section 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Tachilek District Court sentenced
him to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 25 years’ under Section
19(A) to serve separately.

YANGON, 9 May- A combined team
comprising members of Local Intelligence Unit and Mandalay Special Anti-Drug
Squad, acting on information, searched the house of Daw Kot (a) Daw Ye Myint, No
38, 14 Htonebo, Yetkwatkyi (1) in PyinOoLwin and seized Ma Shoung Hua together
with 5,600 stimulants tablets bearing WY and R at 1.15 pm on 26-10-2002.
In connection with the case,
action was taken against Daw Kot,48, daughter of U Paw Tun and Ma Shoung Hua,
40, daughter of U Lauk San in Naungkhan Village, PyinOoLwin Township under
Section 15/19(A)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
PyinOoLwin Police Station.
PyinOoLwin District Court on 1
April handed down the two to 30 years’ imprisonment each under Section 19(A).

4 May – Ma Aye Aye San and Ma San Ye were arrested with 4.899 kilos of raw opium
at seat No 25/26, carriage No 1 of Mandalay-Myitkyina up train at Shwebo Station
by a combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Ywataung Railway Police Force on 11 September 2002.
Action was taken against Ma Aye
Aye San, 30, daughter of U Man Sint of Ward 3, Tharzi, Ma San Ye, 33, daughter
of U Ba Thein of Indawgyi Village in Mohnyin Township and their accomplices
Maung Maung Sein, 34, son of U Maung Maung of Phayangasu Village, Tharzi
Township and Than Kyaw, 30, son of U Tun Aung of Ward 2, Mya Taung Village in
Namte Township under Sections 15/16(C)/19(A)/21 of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Shwebo Police Station.
The Shwebo District Court handed
down 25 years’ imprisonment each on Ma Aye Aye San and Ma San Ye under Section
19(A) and Maung Maung Sein and Than Kyaw under Section 19(A)/21 on 3 March.

Drug traffickers incarcerated
YANGON, 1 May — A combined team comprising members of the local
intelligence unit, Yangon Special Anti-Drug Squad and the local police force,
acting on a tip-off, searched the Room 407 at the Eastern Hotel on Bo Myat Tun
Street in Pazundaung Township on 31 July 2002.
In the raid, the authorities arrested Thant Zin Aung (a) Thet Naing Oo, Nyein
Chan Aung (a) Aik Kham, Ma Phyu Nu Nge, and Ma Min Min Thein (a) Ju Ju together
with 81 stimulant tablets.
The Pazundaung Police Station filed a lawsuit against Thant Zin Aung, 21, son of
U Hla Win Naing of No 129, 24th Street, Ward 8, Latha Township; Nyein Chan Aung,
22, son of U Shwe of No 155, 81st Street between 17th and 18th Streets,
Aungmyethasan Township, Mandalay; Ma Phyu Nu Nge, 22, daughter of U Thein Shwe
of Room 3, Apartment 7, Myakantha Street, Myakantha Estate, Ward 9, Kamayut
Township; and Ma Min Min Thein, 22, daughter of U Myo Min of No 49, Myanmagonyee
Street, Mingala Taungnyunt Township under Sections 15/19(A)/21 of the Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
On 25 March, the Yangon East District Court sentenced Nyein Chan Aung to 20
years’ imprisonment under Section 19(A), and Thant Zin Aung, Ma Phyu Nu Nge, and
Ma Min Min Thein to 20 years’ imprisonment each under Sections 19(A)/21.
