Drug trafficker
gets life sentence
Yangon,
15 Sept – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and
Taunggyi Special Anti-drug Squad and officials of the Bureau of Special
Investigation and the Customs Department, searched a taxi, going from Hopong to
Taunggyi at the entrance to Taunggyi on 19 August 2002, and found 6.6 kilos of
heroin in the box of Tin Thein (a) Chi Chein who was in the car. No 1 Police
Station in Taunggyi filed Tin Thein (a) Chi Chein, son of U Lauk Kyaung, of Ban
Yin Myo in Hsihseng Township, under sections 15/19(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law. Taunggyi District Court handed down a life sentence
on the drug trafficker under Section 19 (A) on 24 June 2003.

YANGON,
14 Sept – Policemen of the Pyu Police Station, Pyu Township, Bago Division,
acting on information, on 24 June evening, searched the house of Maung Ko at
Pyinmabin village, Zeyawady, Pyu Township and seized him with 0.8164 kilos of
marijuana kept in plastic bag in his shop.
In connection with the case,
action was taken against Maung Ko, son of U Dawoyet of Pyinmabin village,
Zeyawady, Pyu Township under Section 15/19(a) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Zeyawady Police Station.
Toungoo District Court on 25
August handed down him to 15 years’ imprisonment under Section 19(A).
Drug trafficker

Yangon,
11 Sept – Yangon District (North) Court on 6 July handed down Kyaw Htay (a) Chit
Te, a drug trafficker, to five years imprisonment under Section 15 and 25 years
imprisonment under Section 19 (A) to serve separately.
A combined team comprising
members of Yangon and Bago special anti-drug squads and Hlinethaya Police
Station, acting on a tip-off, on 23 April 2002 searched his dwelling of No
1092/A, Bandoola Road, 15-Ward in Hlinethaya Township and seized 1.632 kilos of
marijuana.
In connection with the case,
action was being taken against him under Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drug and
Psychotropic Substances Law by Hlinethaya Police Station.

6 Sept – A combined team comprising members of Local Battalion Unit searched
suspects U Kyi and Ma Thet near Nyaungbintha village in Htantabin Township on 18
January, 2003 and seized them with 4.879 kilos of marijuana. In connection with
the case, action was taken against U Kyi, son of U Thein of Nyaungbintha village
in Htantabin Township and Ma Thet, daughter of U Aung at the same village under
Section of 15/19(a)/21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Mon
Police Station.
Toungoo District Court on 9 July
handed down four years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 15 years’ imprisonment
under Section 19(a) to U Kyi and Ma Thet respectively.

5 Sept – Marijuana weighing 71.970 grams were seized when a combined team
comprising members of the local intelligence unit and the Yangon Division
Anti-crime Squad searched a suspect, Thein Htwe (a) Phyu Tok on Ayawun street
near Uyin market at Ward 10 in Thakayta township on 10 February 2003. The
Thakayta No 2 Police Station filed a lawsuit against Thein Htwe, son of U Htwe,
Thayasu village, Maubin, Ayeyawady Division, under Sections 15/19(a) of Narcotic
Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Later, the case was handed over
to the deputy district judge’s court of Yangon East District. On 24 March, the
court sentenced the drug pusher to 20 years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (a)
of the drug law.
Drug
traffickers get sentences

3 Sept – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bhamo
Special Anti-drug Squad, searched a Hilux car with number plates Dha/3545, which
was going from Laiza to Myitkyina on 10 March, 2003 and found deputy 0.244 kilo
of heroin in the wicker basket of Ma Dwebu. It is learnt that the owner is Ma
Mabon.
Myothit Police Station filed Ma
Dwebu, daughter of U Gaw Lo Yan of Myaymyint Ward in Myitkyina, and Ma Marbon,
daughter of U Jan Maw Mon, Ward 4 in Konlok Village, Momauk Township, under
Sections 15/19 (A) and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Bhamo District Court handed down
10 years’ imprisonment with labour each on the two drug traffickers under
Section 19 (A) on 22 July.
