YANGON,
24 Jan – A combined team including members of local intelligence unit and Yangon
Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched suspect Than Lwin (a)
Kalar on Hsinmin Street, Hsinmin Ward, Ahlon Township, on 10 January 2003 and
seized him together with 40 stimulant tablets bearing WY letters.
In connection with the case,
Ahlon Police Station filed a lawsuit against Than Lwin (a) Kalar, son of U Tin
Htwe of Theitpan Street, under section 15/19(A) of Narcotic Drugs and
Psychotropic Substances Law.
Yangon West District Court
sentenced him to 20 years in prison under section 19(A) on 3 December 2003.
Drug dealers
get prison terms
YANGON,
12 Jan – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Yangon Special Anti-drug Squad searched Pale Yadana Guest House at No 51,
Ledauntkan Street, Thingangyun Township, on 26 August 2002. In the search, the
authorities found 140 stimulant tablets and 204 grams of heroin and arrested
Myint Swe, Tint Naing, Polon (a) Myo Min Tun, Pauk Phaw, Aung Htay and Ko Sai
(a) Zaw Min Oo.
Thingangyun Police Station filed
a lawsuit against Myint Swe, son of U San Myint of South Okkalapa Township; Tint
Naing, son of U Thein Aung of Mayangon Township; Polon (a) Myo Min Tun, son of U
Tint Naing of Lashio; Pauk Phaw, son of U Tun Lu of Lashio; Aung Htay, son of U
Thaung Htay of Pantanaw Township; and Ko Sai (a) Zaw Min Oo, son of U Bo of
Lashio, under Sections 15/19 (A) / 21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic and
Substances Law. The case was handed to Yangon East District, which on 28
November 2003 sentenced the drug traffickers each to 20 years’ imprisonment
under Section 19 (A).
In a similar action, a combined
team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and the district crime
control unit, acting on information, searched Win Guest House in Ward 5, Kamayut
Township, on 17 January 2003 and caught Ar Ti (a) Myint Soe and Ma Rasuri
together with 195 stimulant tablets.
Kamayut Police Station filed a
lawsuit against Ar Ti (a) Myint Soe, son of U Tin Ko of Kawkayeik Township, and
Ma Rasuri, daughter of u Kho Li of the same township, under Sections 15/19 (A) /
21 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
The case was handed to Yangon
District Court, which on 24 November 2003 sentenced Ar Ti (a) Myint Soe to 20
years’ imprisonment under Section 19 (A) and Ma Rasuri to 5 years’ imprisonment
under Section 15.
Drug
traffickers sentenced
YANGON,
11 Jan – A combined team comprising members of local intelligence unit and Bago
Special Anti-Drug Squad, acting on information, on 26 January 2003 searched Htay
Oo who got off the train at Phaya Thonzu station on Yangon-Mandalay rail road
and seized 1.3064 kilos of marijuana in his rucksack.
Action was taken against Htay Oo
(a) Maung Pu, son of U Phyu, of Myoma-4 Extension Ward, Nyaunglaybin under
Section 15/19 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by
Nyaunglaybin Police Station.
Htay Oo (a) Maung Pu was
sentenced to five years’ imprisonment under Section 15 and 25 years’
imprisonment under Section 19 (A) by Bago District Court to serve separately on
20 February 2003.
Likewise, a combined team
comprising members of local intelligence unit and Taunggyi Special Anti-Drug
Squad, acting on information, on 6 March 2003 searched the house of Ma San San
Myint (a) Ah Tu in Konmyinttha Ward, Mongshu and arrested her together with
7.8374 kilos of raw opium.
Action was taken against Ma San
San Myint (a) Ah Tu, daughter of U Li Hsan, of Konmyinttha Ward, Mongshu under
Section 15/19(A)/20 (A) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Ah
Loisaunghtauk Police Station.
She was sentenced to 25 years’
imprisonment under Section 19 (A) by Taunggyi District Court on 1 September
2003.
Drug
triffickers sentenced
YANGON,
8 Jan – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug Squad, acting on information, searched the house of
Myat Tun in Lwaisaton Village in Tachilek Township on 17 February 2003 and
seized 270 stimulant tablets, which he said he had bought from Joye.
Action was taken against Myat Tun,
son of U Nyunt Maung and Joye, son of U Chetbo of Lwaisaton Village in Tachilek
Township under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law by Tachilek Police
Station.
Tachilek District Court handed
down 5 years’ imprisonment and 13 years’ imprisonment to serve separately on
Myat Tun under Section 15 and Section 19 (A) of the law and 13 years’
imprisonment on Joye under Section 19 (A) of the law on 13 March 2003.
Similarly, a combined team
comprising members of the local intelligence unit, Yangon Special Anti-drug
Squad and Mingaladon Police Station, acting on information, searched the house
of Nay Myo Aung and Ma Myint Myint Nyo in Market Ward, Mingaladon Township, on 3
June 2003 and seized 97.975 grams of marijuana. Action was taken against Nay Myo
Aung, son of U Hla Thein, and Ma Myint Myint Nyo (a) Ma Nyo, daughter of U Kyi
Soe of the above-mentioned ward under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
Law by Mingaladon Police Station. Yangon North District Court handed down 20
years’ imprisonment on Nay Myo Aung under Section 19 (A) and 5 years’
imprisonment on Ma Myint Myint Nyo (a) Ma Nyo under Section 15 of the law on 5
November 2003.
Drug

1 Jan – A combined team comprising members of the local intelligence unit and
Tachilek Special Anti-drug squad, acting on information, inspected the house of
Sai Pyan in Siwan Htaung Village, Mongphone (A) Village-tract, Tachilek
Township, on 4 February 2003, and arrested Sai Pyan, Aik Htar, and Aik Son
together with 50 stimulant tablets.
Action was taken against Sai Pyan,
son of U Nan Pyan, Aik Htar, son of U Khin Kyauk of Pa Htaung, and Aik Son, son
of U Kyaw of Tawkawk Apyin Village under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic
Substances Law by Wanpan Police Station.
Tachilek District Court handed
down 5 years’ imprisonment and 12 years’ imprisonment to serve separately under
Sections 15 and 19 (A) of the law on Sai Pyan, 12 years imprisonment under
Section 19 (A) on Aik Htar and 5 years’ imprisonment and 10 years imprisonment
under Sections 15 and 19 (A) on Aik Son on 3 October 2003.
